I've read Sara Wachter-Boettcher's Technically Wrong, and a common theme in the books is how a marginalized person could have been a sort of "canary in the coal mine" on various snafus. In my limited experience in the tech scene, I feel like my job is more to assess if a feature is "offensive" like one uses a sensitivity reader, rather than to be fully integrated into the process. And it feels nit-picky because I know they mean well, but I want to do more than assess; I have skills outside of that! How can I encourage folks to include people like me as more than "readers," and as full members of the team?
