If you are getting hired somewhere new and your new manager rejects your salary negotiations by saying "you are getting a significant raise from before (5k)" -- how do you respond? It seems starting out lower in pay (I'm a former broadcast journalist) will always be an excuse to be paid below market value. Also -- what can women do about the pay gap in 2020? I feel like there is always going to be a preference for my male colleagues with families (and two incomes due to their wives.) I feel that way about potential layoffs too.
