The “leave your boring office job and follow your dreams” narrative is a popular one in our society. But debt and bills and the general cost of living in big cities are all real responsibilities that sometimes can’t be put aside while we take a couple of years to start our dream business without paying ourselves, or dig into a profession that isn’t known to be lucrative. What advice do you have for someone taking the leap, from a “stable, secure” 9-5 to, let’s say, writing - in the economic environment we find ourselves in at the tail-end (fingers crossed) of a pandemic? In expanding our skillset and continued learning in such a quickly changing world, what are some suggestions in how to anchor oneself while choosing the right direction to adapt, stay flexible and provide value in tomorrow’s industry?
