Being a marginalized Asian minority I’ve always been judged by the fact that I am usually the only one in the room of that race. As such it’s hard to win over the majority’s prejudices against me, a marginalized minority for which many people have no sympathy or understanding of. And every time I speak I see other people evaluating me based on their stereotypes of my race. Eg. My Asian race is seen as submissive quiet shy. The thing is I’m none of those qualities and there’s a cognitive dissonance wherein I am then treated worse than if I hid in the shadows of my race and were those traits. How do I counter their antagonism and prejudices about my racial identity? Also during this pandemic Asians are looked suspiciously upon. How do I quell others’ fears and antipathy towards me as an Asian so that I do not get discriminated against in recruitment and hiring events?
