I've encountered this a few times now - the interview goes really well, the interviewer responds well to my case for the career change or advancement, and I'm able to describe transferable skills to demonstrate how I'm more than ready for the position. Then something seems to change after the interview is over, and I receive feedback like, "we just want someone with direct experience in this kind of role." What can I do to overcome this frustrating conundrum of not being able to get experience in that role without being hired for that role?
