How will you make an impact in this role?
You will be part of the Global Tax function at American Express, whose mission is to deliver tax expertise and technology-enhanced solutions that positively influence business outcomes. This role sits in the Global Transfer Pricing (GTP) team, based out of NY, reporting to Director -Global Transfer Pricing at American Express. The GTP team ensures the creation and alignment of the transfer pricing policies with the global business operations of the company, assists in preparing strategic documentation to support the inter-company transactions within the group and resolving transfer pricing challenges with the tax authorities across various jurisdictions.
The primary focus of this role would be to ensure that all intercompany transactions follow the relevant transfer pricing regulations as well as are in compliance with Company’s transfer pricing policies. In addition, the candidate would support the Director of Global Transfer Pricing in driving the transfer pricing optimization strategies across the organization. The candidate will be regularly challenged both internally and externally due to wide-ranging and complex inter-company transactions across various lines of businesses and constant transfer pricing developments in the US and abroad.
This role requires knowledge of the relevant aspects of the Internal Revenue Code, Regulations and Official Guidance, international tax guidelines like OECD’s guidelines for multinational enterprises, BEPS action items, and international tax treaties particularly the United States income tax treaties (or conventions) with foreign countries.
Responsibilities & Skills for the role includes:
- Develop, implement and drive transfer pricing optimization strategies for cross-border transactions in compliance with US federal tax and international tax provisions / guidelines;
- Provide business advisory support for cross border transactions to colleagues both within and outside of Global Tax to ensure we are in line with relevant provisions of the Internal Revenue Code and international tax guidelines;
- Provide support on US and non-US tax audits, including responding to the IDRs, researching, and preparing the tax & financial analyses together with supporting documentation to be able to defend the company’s position in such audits;
- Monitor transfer pricing related tax legislative developments across markets where American Express conducts business including developments related to the OECD BEPS initiatives to determine impact to and actions required by American Express
- Supervise the external tax advisors on the preparation and review of contemporaneous transfer pricing documentation and recognizing / enforcing tax strategizing possibilities
- Undertake effective analysis and manage processes related to forecasting intercompany transactions/legal entity profitability for supporting the tax accounting and compliance teams in the income tax provision process/effective tax rates computation
- Collaborate with colleagues and peers in the business and other support functions to provide tax technical support in arriving at arm’s length pricing in compliance with applicable transfer pricing regulations
- Liaise with colleagues both within and outside of the Global Tax to collect relevant information and data, wherever necessary in order to support various transfer pricing initiatives
- Ensure all transfer pricing compliances are met as per the regulatory due dates for all the AXP legal entities
Minimum Qualifications

The preferred candidate should have a minimum experience of 5 years working with a large US based multinational enterprise or with one of the BIG 4 public accounting firms of which 3-4 years should be in the management role

Should be professionally qualified (CPA) and/or with tax qualifications i.e., a law degree with tax specialization

Other educational qualifications like Bachelor’s / Master’s in Finance or Economics, would be a plus

Strong accounting, analytical, and research skills

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Strong experience with a variety of tax operations and ability to drive process improvements

Strong ability to utilize project management and best practices to organize and prioritize tasks

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

Knowledge and familiarity with Oracle Financials and SharePoint tools

Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
