Specialty Office: Orthopedic Department
Schedule: Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 4:30pm
Location: 4101 Technology Ave., New Albany, IN 47150
Primary Responsibilities:
- Answers telephones and either responds to the inquiry, directs the caller to the appropriate personnel, or initiates a telephone note for response by medical personnel; retrieves voicemails and answers/routes them as needed
- Answers incoming questions about the organization and provides callers with the address, directions, and other information
- Schedules appointments, verifies patient demographic and insurance information. Enters the appointment date and time into an EPM
- Telephones or writes patients to remind them of appointments
- Distributes new patient information packets
- Instructs new patients in completion of information forms; collects updates from current patients
- Schedules appointments following scheduling guidelines and referrals where applicable
- Greets and directs patients, vendors, and visitors
- Check patient in, verify demographics, insurance eligibility and obtain copy of insurance card
- Receives and process account payments
- Enters patient information into the computer; retrieves data as needed
- Confirms patient insurance eligibility using available systems
- Records payments received and prepares reports of transactions
- Receives, sorts, and routes mail, and maintains and routes publications
- Attends meetings and participates on committees as requested
- Attends and completes assigned training
- Performs other related duties and responsibilities as directed
- Complies with all company policies and procedures regarding HIPAA and handling of PHI
- Complies with all company policies and procedures regarding handling of cash or other payments

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
- 1+ years of customer service experience with strong communication skills both in person and via phone
- 6+ months of general office experience (preferably medical office)
- Intermediate level of computer proficiency, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail systems, and web-based programs
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ years of medical office experience in patient registration, patient access, surgery scheduling, medical assisting, or related healthcare positions
- Previous experience with EMR systems
Soft Skills:
- Ability to prepare reports and routine business correspondence
- Ability to interact and communicate with a variety of people, both on a one-on-one basis and in meetings and group presentations; must be able to relate to and work with ill, emotionally upset, and sometimes hostile people
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to follow direction
- Ability to think logically in order to troubleshoot, analyze situations, and make appropriate decisions
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment
- Ability to stand and sit for periods of time and to move intermittently throughout the workday
- Strong sensory skills, such as visual acuity, good hearing, and dexterity
- Ability to occasionally push, pull, lift, move, and/or carry up to 15 pounds with or without assistance
- Good speaking and listening skills
- Ability to perform focused work with close attention to detail
- Ability to operate office equipment, including computers, copiers, fax machines, and phones
- Ability to interact with others, both in person and through phone, e-mail, and written correspondence
