Minimum qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Engineering or equivalent practical experience in technical writing or instructional design for hardware, computer, systems, or software engineering topics.
- 2 years of experience in technical writing, instructional design, or equivalent practical experience in a role focused on complex technical communication (e.g., Product Documentation, Technical Journalism, or Training or Support for technical products or services).
- 2 years experience working with, or writing for hardware, systems, or software engineering topics.
- Experience reading source code written in Java, C++, Python, or JavaScript.
Preferred qualifications:
- 4 years of experience working with engineers, product and project management as part of the hardware or software development process.
- 4 years of experience writing or editing written or multimedia materials for an audience of hardware, systems, or test engineers.
- Experience with reading source code written in Java, C++, Python, and/or JavaScript and product development, enablement and support processes.
- Proficiency with Markdown, HTML, and CSS.
- Ability to communicate in English, Traditional Chinese, and Mandarin fluently.
Technical writers communicate complex information clearly, concisely and accurately, and without relying on jargon. As a technical writer, your role involves tasks such as writing conceptual overviews and procedures, reading and writing example code, or updating help center queries and FAQs. Technical writers play a big part at Google. They are a key link between engineers, marketing associates, developer advocates, as well as all the external users and developers, tying together many vital but disparate parts of the Google ecosystem.
You develop complex, in-depth communications for internal and external audiences and manage projects that involve coordinating multiple junior writers.

- Write and review technical content, and enforce Google documentation standards. Key content types and associated standards will include requirements, specifications, test descriptions, processes, and conceptual information, including training guides and materials.
- Edit documents written by others; coach engineers and other subject matter experts to improve their writing skills.
- Prepare and publish technical materials using markdown and a git and cider based toolchains.
- Plan, research, and produce technical documentation and training for clearly defined small projects and contribute to portions of medium to large sized projects.
- Contribute to projects related to publishing platform information architecture, content management, and the refinement of content based on user feedback and research.
