Job Description: This position is the Section Manager for a Mechanical Engineering Section in the Space Systems Electro-Optical (EO) Mechanical Engineering Department within the Hardware Engineering Center. The manager is responsible for leading a group of mechanical engineers to successfully execute on space programs they support. The manager is also responsible for performance and career development discussions, and the proactive development of staff by providing mentoring, guidance, and training opportunities. The role requires engineering and management knowledge in support of the engineering development team from conceptual design phases through preliminary and critical design, build, test and delivery of complex Electro-Optical Sensors. The position requires detailed design experience with knowledge of AI&T and production, cPDM and may at times support bidding activities.
This position also serves as a Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer for the department and programs, often serving as an Integrated Product Team Lead (IPTL) or Responsible Engineering Authority (REA) on Space EO programs. The Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer is responsible for understanding design requirements, coordinating mechanical design, preparing design reviews, and presenting engineering to Raytheon leadership, customer management, and consultants. The engineer in this position will have broad engineering knowledge capable of leading a cross-functional engineering and analysis team from a strong technical background involving material selection, optical layout, thermal management, precision mechanical mounting and motion, and structural optimization while balancing cost and schedule constraints. The qualified candidate will possess good communication and teaming skills, and will provide direction and consultation on mechanical issues and be responsible for technical work performed by junior level engineers.

Job Related Activities:
- Perform functional management duties for engineering staff
- Actively work with Program Management and IPTLs to staff programs and support their successful execution
- Ensure the consistent application of engineering best practices and that all activities undertaken under your control are conducted to common standards in accordance with Raytheon's processes
- Support a program as a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer
- Minimum of 10 years of professional mechanical engineering experience
- Hands on experience in development of space products from concept to production release
- Possess strong written and oral communication skills
- Extensive experience with Creo or similar CAD tool, complex mechanical design, and cPDM
- Experience in some leadership capacity
U.S. Citizenship is required as this position requires a current U.S. DOD top secret clearance or SSBI day one of employment
- Specific proven hardware experience in space electro-optical products
- Knowledge in the Raytheon proposal and bid process
- Experience as a Technical Lead on a product line or business area
- Experience mentoring and leading junior engineers on space EO programs
- Knowledge in Earned Value Management System
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, and minimum 10 years of related experience
