Job Summary:
The Associate Director of Program Architecture reports to the Director of Enterprise Architecture for Raytheon Digital Technology (DT) and is responsible for leading a team of digital architects as they work to solve some of the most challenging business needs faced by Raytheon, an RTX Business. The program architecture team is made up of highly qualified architects with a wide range of technical expertise in areas such as systems architecture, strategy, and infrastructure design. They apply industry standard technologies and advanced concepts (including Cloud, Internet of Things, DevSecOps, High Performance Computing, and secure communications technologies) and leverage their communications skills to develop innovative, robust, and affordable digital technology solutions. The team utilizes architecture frameworks such as The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) and the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) to clearly articulate the business needs, the capabilities that need to be provided, alternative solutions, and the value associated with the delivery of these capabilities. As the Associate Director of Program Architecture, you will collaborate across Raytheon and RTX, and partner with multiple Raytheon DT directorates to deliver the best solution to meet program needs.
The position also requires working as a principal architect on strategic activities. This individual will often lead these activities and may define the digital architecture for their area of expertise. They will identify gaps in Raytheon and Enterprise capabilities and follow architecture development methods to address those gaps. Throughout the architecture process, they will actively look for the opportunity to leverage architecture principles, enterprise services and standards, reusable components and patterns and reference architectures to reduce overall system maintenance and development costs, while simultaneously optimizing the capability applicability, performance, reliability, expandability, and availability. This position is currently designated as fully remote. However, the successful candidate will be required to work from one of the 50 U.S. states (excluding U.S. Territories).
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
- Manage and lead a team of program architects, providing regular performance feedback, holding performance reviews, and assigning work to team members
- Mentor team members to help them develop their skills as architects and develop their careers
- Partner across DT to identify opportunities to improve cost, schedule, and performance of program digital capabilities.
- Act as a lead architect on large and cross-organizational architecture efforts
- Partner across business units and the Enterprise to share architecture practices, governance, work products, and to partner on common efforts.
- Facilitate enterprise architecture involvement and support including participation in enterprise technology architecture groups, identification and dissemination of technology standards, and partnering across the organization to ensure adherence to enterprise technology policies and standards.
- This is a remote work role, but the person must be willing to travel to one of our US Domestic sites as needed to meet with members of the team they will manage and perform classified Digital Architect work that needs to be done onsite. Frequency of travel will be once per month for 2-4 days for each trip.
Basic Qualifications:
- The role typically requires a University Degree from an accredited university and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree and minimum 10 years’ experience. In lieu of degree, the person must have a minimum of 16 years professional and relevant technical experience to be considered.
- Experience leading teams and managing individual contributors.
- Experience with architecture frameworks, methodologies, artifacts, and ways to organize architectural work products.
- Experience architecting, designing, developing, and deploying information system technologies to meet organization objectives.
- Experience working with agile frameworks and methodologies (e.g., Scrum, SAFe).
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Architecture certifications or the ability to obtain these certifications (e.g. Raytheon Certified Architect, TOGAF).
- Ability to mentor others to elevate their technical abilities and develop career paths.
- Ability to speak with customers and business partners in their language and to understand their business processes and to translate those needs into DT architecture requirements.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with individuals with varied backgrounds.
- Experience designing large-scale IT solutions in a multi-platform enterprise.
- Knowledge of leading-edge technologies and applications with the demonstrated ability to identify and quickly understand and apply those concepts in a practical way.
- Experience with public cloud service providers (such as AWS and/or Azure)
- Experience assessing the risks, opportunities, and business value of complex technical solutions and quantify them in a way that is measurable and meaningful to the business.
- Ability to inspire confidence in technical approaches with in-depth domain expertise and clear persuasive communications.
- Experience developing architecture models and views using the ArchiMate modeling language
- Proficiency with Sparx Enterprise Architect
- Familiarity of industry standards in the digital architecture domain
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies

Role Type - Remote: Employees who are working in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home). An employee may be expected to travel to the site location as needed. The salary range for this role is 143,000 USD - 287,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
