The Mechanical Design Engineer researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.
Additional Requirements
Salary Range 2: $120,900 - $181,300
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

- Bachelors in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or a STEM discipline AND 5 years of engineering experience OR Master's degree in a STEM discipline AND 3 years of engineering experience, OR PhD in STEM discipline AND 0 years or engineering experience.
- Experience
- manufacturing, design and drawing practices including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
- Experience or coursework in CAD systems: NX CAD, SolidWorks or CREO
- Knowledge and experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Ability to multitask and organize/prioritize job assignments in a fast-paced and gated-release engineering development environment.
- This position is contingent upon the ability to obtain/maintain DoD Secret Clearance, and Contract Award.
- Bachelors in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or a STEM discipline AND 9 years of engineering experience OR Master's degree in a STEM discipline AND 7 years of engineering experience, OR PhD in STEM discipline AND 4 years or engineering experience.
- Experience in manufacturing, design and drawing practices including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Experience in CAD systems: NX CAD, SolidWorks or CREO
- Knowledge and experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Ability to multitask and organize/prioritize job assignments in a fast-paced and gated-release engineering development environment.
- This position is contingent upon the ability to obtain/maintain DoD Secret Clearance, and Contract Award.
- Active Secret clearance
- Master's degree in applicable area.
- Proficiency with mechanical computer aided design (CAD) software, preferably design and analysis experience with PTC Creo Parametric 4.0.
- Practical understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2009)
- Detailed mechanical design knowledge of structures, mechanisms, release and drive actuators, and material selection.
- Space craft/aerospace materials experience in metals, adhesives, thermoplastics, etc.
- Working knowledge of applicable manufacturing processes such as machining, finishing, and rapid prototyping.
- Demonstrable problem solving skills with hands-on project experience.
- Excellent technical communication skills and strong analytical skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to organize and prioritize job assignments and tasks.
- Ability to work independently as well as in an integrated team and adapt to change and dynamic requirements.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint...).
