As a Sustaining Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for server hardware design support, product quality, and driving resolution of all customer and field issues related to DSS products across our entire customer base. You will be accountable for leading investigations into product design improvements, resolving customer technical issues through a rigorous and creative problem solving approach and work cross functionally with peer engineering and support teams to drive resolution of issues in a timely manner. Responsibilities also include analysis, selection and qualification of new technologies and components needed to sustain our products throughout the full customer lifecycle to meet stringent quality and cost metrics.
Provide primary product design support for production and systems in the field and serve as the first line of intake for any product issues stemming from our services and operations teams.
Perform root cause analysis through a rigorous, methodical approach employing state of the art tools such as high speed oscilloscopes and bus/protocol analyzers, etc.
Lead the qualification of alternative component sources for the purpose of product lifecycle support, quality and/or cost objectives
Develop design modifications of existing products to improve performance and/or support alternative component sources
Work with our product validation teams to develop and enhance validation tools and related test processes. Develop, execute and maintain existing test cases in support of the Sustaining Development process
Provide consulting expertise to product support teams and new product designs on design standards and best practices
Successful candidates must possess the following skills and qualifications:
MS and/or BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering with an emphasis on computer architecture, and logic design
5-10 years experience with x86, board-level high-speed digital design, encompassing schematic capture, PCB layout and Signal Integrity fundamentals
Experience in directly interfacing with customers to provide solutions and resolve issues critical to their businesses in a timely manner
Strong ability in organizing and managing multiple projects, setting priorities and working independently under aggressive timelines
Ability to write and analyze requirements, functional specifications, design specifications, test plans, and documentation
Strong ability to identify potential product weakness and be able to provide design guidance and recommendations for improvements to subsequent redesigns
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong attention to detail
Strong knowledge of product development and related manufacturing processes with an emphasis on problem solving and process improvement
Desired additional skills and qualifications:
Extensive electrical and protocol knowledge of the following standards: SAS/SATA, PCIe, DDR3/4, I2C, NCSI, Ethernet, Fibre Channel
Experience with FPGA and/or CPLD architecture, coding and related system architectural design and implementation
Hands-on experience with Schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Cadence Allegro
Strong working knowledge of Enterprise Server, Storage and Networking architectures and protocols.
