We’re looking for an experienced creative who can bend words into big ideas and who knows the ins and outs of branding and marketing; someone who loves tunneling through research, soaking up strategy, and immersing themselves in culture at every level to invent new and exciting ways of telling stories for a growing portfolio of clients in higher education. Reporting to the creative director, the associate creative director will lead the verbal direction of brand development for an interdisciplinary creative studio. Day-to-day, you will partner with other creatives to bring brands to life. Within your studio, those partners include various levels of writers and designers. Outside your studio, you will work with a range of specialists including strategists, researchers, and account directors. From collaborative brainstorms to conceptual narratives to tactical executions across media channels—print, environmental, digital, and social— you will play a key role in shaping and elevating the agency’s award-winning work.

A successful candidate for this position will have a robust portfolio that demonstrates their ability to write copy that can captivate an audience and convey an idea. You will need to share examples of turning brand strategy into creative concepts and activating that work through various channels.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coming up with big ideas, pitching those ideas via conceptual narratives, and pulling them through in copy extensions and media activations
  • Leading all verbal aspects of brand development for a portfolio of clients within a creative studio
  • Daily collaboration with designers and writers
  • Desire to work at the intersection of marketing, branding, and higher education
  • Advanced knowledge and intuitive understanding of digital and social media platforms
  • Strong communication and social skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently with minimal supervision
  • Responsible for directing and mentoring the studio’s copywriters
  • Comfort with presenting effectively to clients and internal teams

Desired Qualifications:

  • 6-8 years of experience at an ad or branding agency
  • Knowledge of higher education industry

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary range begins at $95,000 and will extend based on candidate experience and capability.
  • SimpsonScarborough offers a full benefits package, including nationwide health coverage, dental, vision, a 401k, unlimited PTO, paid parental leave, over 15 holidays per year as well as ½ day Fridays throughout the year (as workload allows), fully remote positions, and a WFH stipend.
