The Consultant, Care Transformation will be a part of a team responsible for the development, implementation, and long-term management of Optum’s Inpatient Case Management and Clinical Variation solution for a strategic client partnership. The successful candidate must be passionate about improving care delivery, effective at collaborating in a fast-paced environment and confident in their interactions with senior leaders, providers, and business partners.

The Consultant will provide project management, business analysis and data analytics support for Optum and client teams focused on improving efficiency in care delivery and achieving health system financial sustainability. This proactive, driven, and communicative professional will support seamless, consistent delivery across Optum business units and key client services.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the collection, analysis, synthetization, and interpretation of qualitative and quantitative data to inform client recommendations
  • Perform detailed data analytics (e.g., MicroStrategy, Excel) and support translation of findings to operational stakeholders 
  • Assist senior team members with project management activities, such as monitoring client scope, tracking deliverables, creating status reports, identifying and mitigating risks, and monitoring successful achievement of project goals
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams through assessment, opportunity identification, solution design, and implementation 
  • Create artifacts or deliverables that effectively summarize findings, support fact-based recommendations, and provide appropriate detail to substantiate conclusions 
  • Assist in the design and implementation of recommended solutions 
  • Develop the skills to build and maintain trusting relationships with teammates and client stakeholders

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Master's degree or 2+ years of health care or management consulting and / or hospital operations and / or project management experience (may include school experience)
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Willingness to travel up to 30-50% to client site in local market based on client needs. If based outside of target market, travel to market will be required based on client needs.
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination, and boosters when applicable, prior to employment to ensure compliance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building project deliverables
  • Familiarity with data management tools and / or BI tools (e.g., Tableau, MicroStrategy)
  • Health care and / or management consulting experience 
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Solid interpersonal skills
  • Able to take initiative and work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Adept at handling ambiguity
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $66,100 to $118,300. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $72,800 to $129,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
