About the role:

The team is responsible for working on the embedded software for the Samsara Connected Sites products, which includes a network video recorder gateway for streaming and recording video and performing AI analysis. The candidate will be working on product firmware working closely with the full stack and other firmware engineers.

In this role, you will:

• Architect, develop, debug, and test modules written in C, and C++, Golang, to configure, stream, process, and store real-time video and metadata on embedded Linux platforms
• Champion software development best practices for performance, scalability, modularity, and robustness
• Debug and optimize network and system level performance
• Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices

Minimum requirements for the role:

• 5+ years of professional industry experience
• Experience with C, C++ , Golang is a plus
• Experience with Linux command line tools
• Experience working on Linux based embedded multimedia systems on complex SOCs
• Experience with multimedia frameworks (e.g. gstreamer, ffmpeg)
• Experience with network protocols (e.g.TCP/IP, UDP, RTP/RTSP)
• Experience implementing streaming protocols a plus (e.g. HLS/RTSP/DASH/WebRTC)
• Bachelors or masters in computer science, engineering or similar

An ideal candidate also has:

• Thrives in an environment that requires rapid deployment and product iteration based on customer feedback.
• Evaluates how decisions at each layer of the stack affect other layers and the customer experience.
• Builds production ready products with design for test mindset.
