Position Summary:

This position is part of the NBA Data Science team with the mission to discover, inspire and engage fans around the world. The Data Product Manager - Advertising will be responsible for the personalization of advertising in the NBA's NextGen platform. This individual will oversee the ingestion and centralization of all fan-level advertising data, own the process for any new advertising data feed additions, manage advertising personalization products for the NBA, and manage data projects for the NBA's media planning and trafficking system.


Your success in this role will come from owning and delivering the data product roadmap for personalized advertising while optimizing for revenue and acquisition across the NBA and its partner advertisers. In doing so, you will manage the full life cycle of personalized advertising. This is a rare opportunity as the solutions you help develop and deploy will have a real and immediate impact on both the league's fans and internal business operations


Major Responsibilities:

  • Drive the ideation, planning, development, and launch of Next Generation personalized advertising data products
  • Work with adops and media planners to ensure business goals and partner obligations are being met
  • Manage data projects for the NBA's media planning and trafficking system
  • Work with data scientists to build personalization models for advertising products
  • Work with data engineers, DevOps engineers, and project managers to design, scope, and deploy personalization products
  • Work with data product managers and data architects to ensure advertising, campaign, and product data schemas align with the enterprise business model and Fan Data Platform data model
  • Work with data analysts to visualize the business impact of personalization
  • Write technical user stories, tasks, epics, acceptance criteria, and nonfunctional requirements
  • Communicate regularly with stakeholders to manage the delivery of projects


Required Skills/Knowledge: 

  • 3+ years as a product manager in personalized advertising data-centric environment
  • 3+ years experience with SQL
  • 2+ years building products using Google Campaign Manager, DFP, or Adobe data
  • 1+ year using Python/R
  • Experience working in Agile
  • Experience building prototypes and shipping products quickly
  • Experience developing or managing CRM databases
  • Experience in adops or media planning/trafficking
  • Skilled in data analysis and data understanding
  • Drive to encourage others to maximize their potential
  • Excellent critical thinking with creative solutions to overcome challenges and meet business requirements
  • Strong collaborator who can work effectively within a matrixed organization to influence and drive results
  • Ability to identify better ways of working at scale through building new mechanisms and processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to translate complex concepts into simple and intuitive communications

Bachelor Degree preferred, a plus if it is technical (Computer Science, Engineering)
