Principal Software Engineering Manager, Azure Performance Engineering
The Microsoft Azure Performance Team is a multi-disciplinary team. The mission of this team is to enable Azure’s distributed development teams to identify, debug, analysis and improve our platform, products and services, as well as drive Azure’s overall and end-to-end performance and reliability improvement. Our goal is to take Microsoft Azure’s massive infrastructure and make it run as efficiently and reliably as possible. We have developed several critical services/tools which provide detailed insight into runtime performance, stability/reliability and optimal resource utilization, as well as a deeper understanding of how each component interacts with neighboring components, root causing and debugging performance bottleneck and failure. We are looking for a seasoned Principal Engineering Manager to join our team and help us to take our cloud service to the next level. In this role, you will lead a new initiative and build your own strong team/teams. The role will be a blend of people management and technical leadership, with a portion of your time devoted to individual software engineering contributions so you can keep your hands dirty and your skills current. You will also need to closely partner with other teams across the company to deliver the value. Means: you will need to be able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, work with internal and external customers to define product/tool/service, you will also need to roll up your sleeves, dig in and help drive change/solve problems. To be succeed in this role, you should possess solid analytical, design and problem diagnosis skills, especially in the cloud performance and reliability area. Expertise with high-performance systems or service design is a plus. You should be comfortable building and managing teams through all phases of software development, including hiring and growing your own teams. The ability to frame out the vision, system/product to solve critical business/technology problems or translate high-level technical requirements into executable project plans is essential.
8+ years as an Engineering Manager with a proven track record of large scale project delivery or performance related product delivery
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
Demonstrated leadership, exceptional cross-team skills, and ability to influence others
Hands-on experience with at least one of C#, C/C++, Java
Technical background and extensive knowledge in infrastructure and systems management products or performance engineering
Experience delivering large cross-functional projects by partnering across multiple teams globally
Familiarity with one of cloud infrastructure services (such as Azure, AWS, GC etc) is a plus
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
