Microsoft's intelligent cloud continues to experience explosive growth. A Site Acquisition Manager is needed at Redmond to lead acquisition of datacenter leases and champion process improvement to enable infrastructure development in a timely manner.

 

The Site Acquisition Manager is responsible for leasing and acquiring of data center spaces, real estate, utilities and data center related infrastructure. The data center Site Acquisition Manager is the global real estate and acquisition manager with focus on continuous process improvement to enable the team to be smarter, faster and better in acquiring cloud infrastructure.  S/he will be responsible for performing analytics and conducting market research on targeted metros and regions, new countries and sites, developing acquisition opportunities, and commercial terms with landlords and stakeholders, making executive proposals on new acquisitions, and constructing and negotiating complex acquisition, lease, and real estate agreements. This will include new, Colocation leases as well as lease renewals.

 

The Site Acquisition Manager will work closely with capacity planers, engineering, construction, security, networking, and operations teams as well as with various global teams and leaders.

Responsibilities
  • Work with capacity planners and network specialists to understand capacity needs and site requirements in assigned metros/regions
  • Champion continuous process improvement to refine existing acquisition processes, methodologies and practices to help the global team to be smarter, faster and better in delivery projects
  • Lead cross functional teams to evaluate, select, negotiate and recommend leases for approval • Work with Finance reps to conduct Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) lease or build options to drive cost down, and help business to achieve business cases
  • Collaborate with internal business units, stakeholders to ensure primary responsibilities are aligned with group’s strategic directions
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate with internal team members, consultants, vendors, and external stakeholders • Proven ability to apply critical thinking in complex situations
  • Experience in leading complex negotiations, contract formation, and contract negotiations • Proven track record as a Team Lead or a Program Manager
  • Must be able to deliver results or projects in a timely manner
  • Ability to interact with internal business units, stakeholders to ensure primary responsibilities are aligned with group’s strategic directions
  • Experience with corporate communications and public relations strategies a plus
  • Strong analytical, creative thinking, written, and verbal communications skills

 

 

Qualifications

Knowledge, experience and skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Arts or Sciences or Business or technical discipline
  • At least 7 years of process improvement, procurement, site acquisition experience in mission-critical, large scale production facilities such as semi-conductor fabricating plants, data centers etc.
  • An understanding of data center leases is highly desirable
  • A six sigma green or black belt certification or A Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Willing to travel domestically or internationally as needed (20% to 30% at times)

 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
