Windows Server powers the Microsoft Azure Cloud, Azure Stack, the software infrastructure of a majority of large enterprises and governments, and millions of workloads and applications around the world. Until now, it released once every ~3 years and we have now started releasing it more frequently. Our team is responsible for accelerating the release cadence of Windows Server and re-tooling engineering practices to enable the new cadence. One key aspect of more frequent releases is a more modular composition of the operating system, to enable different features to release at different times.
We are a looking for a Sr Program Manager to understand customer needs, define requirements and design the attributes and feature sets to release on each cadence (slow and frequent). Examples of attributes of interest are:
Command-line Vs Graphical Interactive logon experience
Installed by default Vs installable roles and features
Application Compatibility by server application category or type
Disk footprint, ease of composability and servicing, upgradeability
Building a strong, customer focused vision and roadmap for a dual release cadence Windows Server
Data-driven from the start – set measurable goals at design time, then track to results
Depth engagement with stakeholders resulting in technical requirements from current business problems.
Planning and executing software development using Agile processes.
On-time delivery that results in software that meets stakeholder requirements and customer expectations.
Effectively communicating complex ideas to audiences with various technical backgrounds
5+ years of engineering program management leadership or large-scale operations experience
Strong track record of delivering complex large-scale features with lots of cross team dependencies
Demonstrated strong performance in prior roles, with increasing levels of responsibility and independence
BS/BA degree, MS preferred in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field
