Software Development Engineer

Redmond, WA, United States

Microsoft Research has been studying quantum computing for several years and has become the world’s center of expertise on topological quantum computing. The research effort includes a staff of theoretical and experimental teams around the world. The Quantum hardware team in Redmond is developing a full-stack quantum computer, consisting of a quantum plane, cryogenic control and readout circuitry, classical control processor, runtime software and quantum language compiler. Designing and optimizing qubits based on novel physical properties and their low-level control hardware requires building a new set of modeling software tools.

Responsibilities

You will be part of a team building next-generation tools to design and model topological qubits and their associated control hardware. In collaboration with top theorists and experimentalists in the field, your work will enable Microsoft’s topological quantum hardware by delivering bleeding edge quantum computer aided engineering solutions. Attention to detail, edge cases, and testing are a must to accommodate a shifting landscape. We are seeking to add a junior engineer to our team, preferably with a physics, quantum mechanics, or quantum engineering background. To apply, please send your resume along with a short introduction.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience using python, Java, or another high-level language for academic/scientific applications
  • Experience with computational science, including analyzing computational bottlenecks and code optimization
  • Experience with CAD, computational geometry, or similar
  • Ability to succeed in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to learn new technologies
  • Background in physics, quantum mechanics, or quantum engineering extra credit
  • Prior experience with superconductor or semiconductor device physics extra credit
  • Prior experience with CAD extra credit
