Job Summary and Duties

Raytheon Technologies is seeking a Mechanical Engineer at our Springfield, Virginia location for a mission support and technology development classified program. As a Mechanical Engineer, the candidate will work with a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team consisting of mechanical, structural, geotechnical, and electrical engineers to develop engineering solutions from conceptualization through prototype development, testing, documentation, and production of deliverables. The successful applicant will have excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts and design practice and be responsible for product design, engineering analysis, production drawings, vendor fabrication of prototype hardware, and procedure development.  The position requires distilling information for audiences to prepare presentations, field reports, cost estimates, and design reviews. Candidates must be professional, self-starters, innovative, have strong communication skills, and work well with engineers, technicians, and customer staff.

Required Qualifications

Candidate must possess an active TS/SCI security clearance

Minimum five (5) years’ prior relevant experience in a Mechanical Engineering role or related field with a University Degree OR three (3) years’ prior relevant experience in a Mechanical role or related field with an Advanced Degree.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, collaborative team environment balancing often widely different project tasks and types

Proficient with material mechanics and engineering dynamics

Experience with test planning, reports, and/or procedure documentation

Experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo)

Ability to lift 50 pounds

Good oral and written communication skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including MS Excel and PowerPoint.  

Desired Qualifications

Experience with electro-mechanical systems, automation, robotics, and/or sensors

Ability to use Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools

Software development experience

Systems engineering and integration experience

Passed the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam

Profession Engineering licensure

Project Management experience

Security Clearance & Other Requirements:

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position requires a U.S. TS/SCI Clearance.

Ability to travel to temporary assignments outside of the greater Washington DC Metropolitan area. Travel <10%. 

Requires advanced knowledge of work area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience. May have practical knowledge of project

management. Practical to substantial knowledge of RTX projects, programs or systems with the ability to make enhancements and leverage in daily work.

Typically requires:

A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience

Engineering/Other Technical Positions:

Typically requires a degree in Science,Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
