Program Manager II

Redmond, WA, United States

We are the Base Platform Team in Windows. What do we do? It’s in our name - we are the base platform layer of the windows kernel and our technologies are used on every single system that runs Windows. Partner teams in windows build their technologies on top of our team's code base and rely on the integrity of our solutions.

We're responsible for the lowest layers of the operating system:

  • where the processors and most core system hardware components interface with Windows
  • where the heart of power management occurs
  • where file systems and modern storage management provide fast, reliable access to data

We’re looking for someone to join the Storage and File Systems team. Microsoft customers expect to always be able to access their data. Whether they are personal videos or enterprise data that keeps a mission critical business running, it is the Storage and File Systems (SFS) team’s responsibility to provide reliable, secure, fast, low-cost and protected access to data.

The SFS team owns the storage technologies and developer platforms that scale from the smallest devices to the largest data centers. Our features impact the whole family of Windows-powered devices. In addition, the SFS team is in bleeding edge of storage technologies whether it is cheaper, bigger hard drives, SDD, storage class memory or a combination of those.

As a Program Manager on our team, a typical day might include:

  • Driving features from inception (based on customer and industry partner feedback) -> planning -> feature completion -> industry adoption.
  • Collaborating with external and internal partner teams to drive clarity and ensure execution on parallel work streams and coordinating communication across partner teams.
  • Partnering with developers on our team to remove roadblocks and enabling them to complete their work efficiently. This could include being POC for your feature area and serving as the first gate for all partner team requests and inquiries.
  • Driving technical areas with independence and exercising leadership skills.

  • 3+ years of experience as a Software Program Manager
  • A BA/BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Previous work experience with Machine Learning
