Outlook Mobile Site Reliability Engineer (Linux)

San Francisco, CA, United States

Outlook Mobile is changing how the world works through mobile email. As professionals continue making the leap to mobile, we empower them to be more responsive and get more done from anywhere. In a world where more than half of email messages are first read on a mobile device, it’s essential to give people fantastic email experiences wherever they go.

The Outlook Mobile team is passionate about this quest and the Outlook Mobile app for iOS and Android provides innovative ways to focus on what’s important in your inbox, to schedule meetings, and work with attachments and files.

The Outlook Mobile team is looking for an SRE who will help build and maintain our global infrastructure as we scale and massively grow. We need you to help us with the challenges of automation at this scale.

With our automation we can spin up an entire standalone production deployments of thousands of servers with almost no human interaction. We're looking for someone to help us expand and grow this project to support further Azure services and to help keep our infrastructure agile. The majority of the code is written in Python 3.5 utilizing Gevent with automated tests and type hinting throughout. We use Ansible for configuration management but will likely rely on that less as we move towards containers and Kubernetes.

If you have expertise with open source technologies, automation, cloud infrastructures, monitoring, and reliability, we want to talk to you.

  • 5+ years experience and strong knowledge of at least one higher-level language (Python preferred)
  • Strong understanding of Linux servers
  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure like AWS or Azure
  • Solid understanding of network services like DNS, VPN, TLS, and load balancing
  • A firm grasp of basic networking concepts including routing, subnets and firewalls
  • Experience with a configuration management tool like Ansible, Chef, or Puppet
  • Docker experience a plus
