Job Details

We are looking for a subject matter expert in Tax to help us develop futureproof Tax software for our clients. Our products enable tax and accounting professionals and businesses of all sizes drive productivity, navigate change, and deliver better outcomes. This is a great opportunity for a tax specialist looking to build up a skillset in Business Analysis.

Responsibilities:

Working closely with the Product Manager; Product Owner and within the Scrum Team, this role will be involved in the business analysis of the tax product area. This role will be dedicated to delivering the following:

  • Ensuring that our products are compliant with the relevant legislation
  • Interpreting and communicating the legislation in order to determine what should be built and to produce the appropriate elaboration material and business rules
  • Defining and evaluating compliance related system tests
  • Acting as an Agile Business Analyst to ensure the Scrum team understands the requirements
  • Following the Scrum process and working with the team to deliver great software
  • Providing second level Client support for other Client facing departments
  • The role requires a proven ability to take the initiative, identify and assess potential risks, and present solutions to project stakeholders
  • Supporting the Product Owner in their role, both internally and externally

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

Business Analysis:

  • Produce concise and effective User Stories
  • Define appropriate User Story acceptance criteria that will be used by developers, automation test frameworks and by product owners to ensure that product owner intent is effectively captured
  • Support the team in fully understanding the user stories through conversation, whiteboarding, and producing appropriate supporting material
  • Gather requirements by conducting interviews, work flow analysis, process analysis, and observation sessions
  • Evaluate information from multiple sources and help distinguish user requests from user needs
  • Interface with all levels of internal clients and analyse current business and software development processes
  • Facilitate and clarify customer business needs and translating them into application and operational requirements
  • Foster Agile principles and methods for requirement gathering
  • Facilitate Agile, rapid and meaningful releases

Compliance:

  • Keeping abreast of changes to relevant legislation
  • Identifying the significance and impact of changes to legislation and practice on our applications and customer base
  • Communicating changes to legislation and practice
  • Producing legislative driven business rules and specifications
  • Defining system test material that exercises the legislative content of a release

Support

  • Assisting with the resolution of Customer Care & Support (CC&S) issues and technical queries
  • Training of support team in new features released

Training & Documentation

  • To assist in the preparation of educational materials for the Team and Clients
  • Work with the Product Owner to provide all the supporting material needed to fulfill the release of the product to market such as release notes, documentation, website content, forum postings both internally and externally, newsletter articles, help etc

Bug tracking

  • Using the CCH incident tracking system to assist in managing, verifying, and assigning priorities to reported issues and requests for change (bugs and enhancements)

Professional Development

  • To alert the Lead Business Analyst (Compliance) of essential classroom or on-the-job training needs
  • To keep yourself briefed through reading trade press, technology press, books and other published works as necessary to optimise performance in the role

Scrum Processes

  • Support and adhere to the Scrum processes

Pre-Requisites - Qualifications/experience

  • A good understanding of UK Tax principles
  • ATT or CTA qualified (desirable)
  • 2 years relevant experience in accounting practice
  • Domain knowledge of Personal (essential), Partnership and Trust Tax including ExPat Tax (desirable)
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to identify and assess risks, problems and issues
  • Must be able to deal with external customers relating to a project
  • Strong focus on delivery
  • Must be comfortable dealing with both external and internal stakeholders at all levels
  • Good knowledge of MS Office suite

Skills we will help you develop:

  • Business Systems Analysis skills
  • Understanding of Scrum and its application in projects
  • Working knowledge of SQL queries

The primary location is Kingston upon Thames but the work can be done remotely from across the UK, ideally with 2 days per week at the office in Kingston (Tuesday and Wednesday).
