Role: News Editor, Metals

Location: Singapore/China

The Role: As a news editor for Metals, you will be responsible for creating news content focused on non-ferrous metals, with special emphasis on aluminum and its supply chain and battery metals such as lithium. Your region of coverage will be Asia, with special emphasis on China. The content includes breaking news, events and data-driven analysis, in-depth features, special reports and delivering these through a variety of digital channels. You will be expected to collaborate with market reporters and senior editors in the metals team in the region and globally.

The Impact: Maintain Platts' high journalistic standards, practices and policies and ensure editorial quality. As the lead non-ferrous content creator for Asia, you will play a significant role in supporting Platts’ benchmarks in this space. You will be empowered to make editorial decisions on non-ferrous content in keeping with Platts' content strategy.

The Career Opportunity:  You will be the go-to person for non-ferrous content news in the region and will be in a position to make news/editorial decisions. You will also have the opportunity to attend regional events including industry conferences, guide our regional stringers on content, and to collaborate with senior writers/market reporters in the region and globally on story ideas.

The Team / The Business:  You’ll sit within the Asia news team but work with the metals market reporters and the global metals team.

Your Skills:  Very strong interpersonal and communication skills; Strong English language writing and reporting skills; Digital skills; Data analysis capabilities; Industry knowledge; Strong Excel skills; While not essential, preference will be given to mandarin speakers due to the role’s strong focus on China.


  • Develop Asian non-ferrous metals news content

You will need to ensure that news on non-ferrous metals is timely, unique and relevant and fully compliant with the Platts News Essentials. You will be responsible for pro-actively driving content on market developments that meets our strategic initiative of Advancing Benchmarks.

  • Content generation and presentation

You will be required to collaborate with market reporters and other members of the regional and global teams to generate and drive content. This could be in the form of further analysis of developing news and/or writing features and columns. You may also be required to pull together information provided by different team members and weave it into a news story. You will be required to think innovatively on how best to present the content to make it impactful and reader friendly. This could involve the use of infographics.

  • Establish a strategic approach to news

Continuously evaluate editorial content, determine what content is relevant to readers and develop value-added news/information. Analyze market issues and look for news and enterprise story opportunities.  Develop and maintain productive relationships with a broad base of key industry sources.
