This role is part of the Infrastructure & Design team within Optum Health’s Network Strategy & Analytics Department.  Candidate is responsible for producing their own quality work product, but also supports the design & development of new standard work products, refined processes for scaling analytics across markets, and overall data organization that supports our business goals.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Enhance & develop consultative analytics using payor-provided ACO claims data to support population health initiatives and drive shared savings
  • Guide & perform user-acceptance-testing (UAT) of payor-specific ACO data ingested into Optum’s conformed payor-agnostic databases
  • Build processes & procedures that replace manual ACO analytics processing with semi-automated ACO analytics data loading & maintenance
  • Perform the evaluation of payer proposals and contract performance for capitation arrangements, and other value-based contracts
  • Design and code (SQL) efficient and effective solutions for challenging problems ranging from small to large complex work efforts
  • Encourage and promote idea generation in support of health care cost reduction strategies
  • Identify potential areas for medical cost improvements
  • Build solid relationships within the organization including financial, actuarial, network contracting, and clinical operations areas

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Finance, Mathematics, Business Information Systems, etc.), or Bachelor’s degree not in relevant field but experience in applicable field
  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare finance, network/contract analytics, unit cost and/or utilization trend evaluations all utilizing health/claims data for a payer/health plan or provider/care delivery system that includes accurate, comprehensive work product with appropriate observations communicated
  • 1+ years of experience working with Accountable Care Organization data, with activities including ad hoc analytics to identify and communicate financial and clinical opportunities
  • Intermediate or greater proficiency in MS-SQL (utilize existing queries, edit queries, create new queries)
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel including advanced formulas and pivots

Preferred Qualifcations:

  • Experience creating and editing Tableau work product
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and initiative
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced environment

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
