If you are looking to solve one of today’s most complex engineering challenges, see the results of your work in hundreds of self-driving cars, and make a positive impact in the world starting in our cities, join us.

About the role:

We are looking for a talented Mechanical Engineering (ME) Manager to lead and grow the ME team in a fast-paced environment. At Cruise, we believe in managers who remain deeply technical and understand the challenges their teams are facing, even though they may not be the technical lead or testing day to day. Our managers coach their teams to success, shield their teams from distractions, and help publicly celebrate their team’s wins. In this position you will lead the development, architecture, analysis, and qualification of mechanical systems.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for growing and developing a team of engineers
  • Responsible for ME system and subsystem execution and vehicle integration that meets program timing and budget
  • Drive ME best practices within your team and create tools which encourage their use across the company
  • Conduct reviews on conceptual design, CAD, analysis (Mechanical, Thermal, etc) and validation plans to ensure high quality of work
  • Organize and lead cross-functional collaboration efforts with Integrity, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Test Engineering, and Manufacturing to ensure full coverage in requirements and features
  • Create and execute technical roadmaps for team while promoting (and living) a healthy and collaborative team culture based on Cruise values
  • Anticipate strategic and scaling-related challenges
  • Drive delivery and development of on-time, well-tested mechanical infrastructure in support of our program and mission

You should apply for this role if you have the following qualifications:

  • 7+ years of industry experience in mechanical engineering
  • Proficiency with CAD and PDM (NX, CATIA, or equivalent)
  • Experience validating complex, high volume mechanical systems
  • Mix of hands-on skills and management experience in mission-critical product development environments
  • Solid understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals
  • Experiences with GD&T and driving through DFM/quality issues with suppliers
  • Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration
  • Ability to learn quickly, starting with little information and quickly becoming an expert in your domain
  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline or equivalent combination education and experience

Bonus points!

  • Experience with automotive and safety critical applications
  • Experience in a regulated industry

Perks of being a Cruiser:

While doing meaningful work is rewarding in itself, we also offer the following programs and benefits to support the extraordinary humans who serve as the backbone in making our self-driving cars go:

  • Competitive salary and benefits including 401(k) Cruise matching program to help you meet your long-term financial goals
  • Medical / dental / vision, AD+D and Life
  • Flexible vacation and company paid holidays
