Are you several years into a market research career and looking for that next step? Vanguard's market research team is hiring an experienced researcher to support internal clients including Global Brand and Corporate Communications. This role will give you the chance to work for a stable growing company, but within a department that is making big changes and looking for the right people to take our value to the next level.


1. Develop an implicit understanding of your internal clients' goals and objectives, and help them make strong decisions by incorporating the customer perspective.

2. Internalize the perspectives of key audiences: general public, investors, and financial media, that can be brought to bear on novel and complex questions.

3. Develop and execute primary research based on business goals and learning objectives.

4. Make the most of existing research when appropriate. The ability to analyze, synthesize and summarize previous findings will be valuable (and lead to glory and honor).

5. Communicate the customer perspective accurately and empathetically. Assist in the production and dissemination of thematic reports on key attitudes and/or behavior patterns. Must be accomplished in verbal or written communication, and able to become expert at both over time.

6. Not a passive order-taker, you should be willing and able to push and extend other people's ideas to make them better. Take a true consultative approach to your projects and relationships.


1. Five years related work experience.

2. Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. (Preferably with significant exposure to the social sciences such as psychology, sociology, political science, anthropology, behavioral economics, or history)

3. You've already proven yourself in the following areas:

  • At least two years managing primary research projects

  • At least two years of direct experience on brand research projects

  • At least two years of hands-on data analysis or business intelligence

  • Strong communication skills in a professional context

4. You've demonstrated potential (at least!) in the following areas:

  • Understanding the financial services industry

  • Understanding the role of the marketer and how consumer insights matter to them

  • Managing stakeholders such as internal partners and external vendors

  • Presenting complex ideas to people with very little time

Key Tasks

1. Consults with marketing and business stakeholders to identify business objectives and determine research methods to answer business questions. Documents research questions and success measures.
2. Develops research approach and manages project timelines, scope, and deliverables. Communicates approach to stakeholders and gains necessary buy-in. Develops a communication plan covering each stage of the research. Develops research materials, and secures approval from internal partners as necessary, and reports findings to leaders.
3. Conducts research and/or partners with external vendors using qualitative and quantitative methods. Interprets marketing trends. Develops research findings and ensures recommendations are actionable and aligned with business priorities. Integrates primary and secondary research data.
4. Presents research findings to stakeholders, gains buy-in from key decision makers, and makes recommendations to facilitate decision-making process.
5. Selects and manages external research vendors as needed. Identifies deliverables and timelines. Ensures accuracy and completeness of deliverables provided by external research vendors. Monitors project budget and coordinates with internal partners accordingly.
6. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
