Position Title: Applications Engineer – Electronic Miniature Circuit Breakers
Location: Peachtree Corners, GA
Overview:
Siemens Smart Infrastructures - Electrical Products Business Unit is looking for an Applications Engineer for their Peachtree Corners, GA location. The Applications Engineer will specialize in pre- and post-sales support focusing on the residential product portfolio of electronic miniature circuit breakers (MCB) for the Electrical Products Business Unit of Smart Infrastructure.
The primary focus will be failure diagnostics of electronic miniature circuit breakers. This will be done via remote support, analysis of returned circuit breakers and troubleshooting on customer's site. The candidate must be able to coordinate and lead diagnostic activities independently. Must be able to communicate effectively with customers and internal departments. In this role the Applications Engineer will work closely together with R&D, Product Management, Technical Assistance, and the Siemens Sales Engineers.
The Engineer will work closely together with R&D to incorporate the findings from the nonconformance diagnostics in the advancement of our AFCI and GFCI circuit breakers offering. Additionally, the candidate will play a key role in the development of future products for the electronic MCB portfolio. This includes design verification and testing new products.
A successful engineer will have a strong educational background in electrical engineering, have experience with circuit breakers and electrical installation. The applications engineer must be able to develop customer relationships, be accurate and detail oriented while working in a fast-paced environment with multiple people, calls and projects demanding attention and time. Candidate must also have the willingness to travel in the US and internationally to job sites to complete the tasks at hand.
What are my responsibilities?
- Pre- / Post-sales support of the electronic miniature circuit breakers (MCB)
- Support the development of technical requirement specifications for residential customer applications
- Field testing reviews and feedback
- Evaluation and documentation of field nonconformance diagnostics to support future product / solutions development needs
- Data collector and analysis field reports / nonconformance through digitalization
- Challenge R&D development path and product qualification requirements to assure safety
- Challenge Product Management roadmap development and prioritization to assure alignment with product improvements required to eliminate field nonconformance
- Participate in and lead industry standards committees in USA and Globally
- Identification and creation of applicable application instructions and white papers
- Development and tracking of appropriate KPI measures of field improvements for electronic miniature circuit breakers through the use of appropriate digital tools to improve insights. Coordination of these measures across applicable departments.
- Consulting with customer, installers, applications engineer experts and internal sales division to address critical to quality features.
- Develop Training process for internal employees and customers.
- Strong contribution to market introduction, field tests & trainings
What do I need to qualify for this job?
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent required. Preference for specific experience in circuit protection and power distribution. Master’s degree in electrical engineer a plus.
- 3-6 years of successful experience in related field and successful demonstration of Key Responsibilities and Knowledge as presented above
- Possess a strong background in troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Demonstrates and applies a broad knowledge of field of specialization through successful completion of moderately complex assignments.
- Successfully applies complex knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of area of specialization
- Demonstrates knowledge of organization's business practices and issues
- Have a strong background in circuit protection and power distribution
- Applications Engineer with ability to define product and solution strategies.
- Ability to collaborate with and influence manage other elements of a cross functional product development team (Product Management, R&D, QA, Field Engineers).
- Prior experience in electrical systems and their installation. Specific working understanding of both low voltage (480V ac and below) electrical and communication networks a plus.
- Prior experience in technical support and / or customer service
- Understanding of NEC and UL Standards is preferred
- Excellent verbal and presentation skills and capability to promote new ideas and solutions
- Good project management skills. Certified scrum master a plus.
- Excellent presentation skills and ability to develop and deliver compelling content for internal and external audiences
- Consistent track record of innovative thinking
- Ability to travel regionally and internationally 30% of time.
- Fluent in English a must. Basic working understanding of German or Spanish preferred

This person will collaborate with product management, R&D, and QA to define and execute a product solutions strategy on electronics miniature circuit breakers.
The Applications Engineer will work with Product Management and R&D to develop and prioritize the product roadmap as well as help the sales force to identify technical customer requirements.
The role requires strong applications engineering experience, a core engineering background, excellent analytical capabilities, and strong communication skills.
This person will be instrumental in defining the future improvements for the electronic miniature circuit breakers and will work closely with the sales force to execute solutions initiatives.
The individual will interact with multiple levels of management and will be responsible for developing and presenting our solution offering to company stake holders and at industry events.
Additional qualifications include:
- Knowledgeable with Microsoft Word or Excel
- Knowledge on data analytics tools such as Python, Knime, Tableau, MATLAB, and Minitab
- Basic knowledge in electronics laboratory equipment such as, multimeter, oscilloscope, power supplies, function generator, soldering iron, and precision hand tools.
