DUTIES: Responsible for the U.S. Sales and Use tax compliance process and Canadian GST/HST compliance process, primarily through return preparation, tax calculation verification, legal research and transaction review. Review sales contracts, supporting agreements, and similar documents to advise business partners regarding sales, use, withholding, GST, and similar transaction taxes. Collaborate with sales, customer, support, legal, procurement, IT, and many other business partners to facilitate tax compliance while supporting business partners in their business functions. Tools used in these responsibilities are MS Office (Excel, Word, Adobe, etc.) and Software (OneSource, Business Objects, SAP). Approximately 5% travel required.
REQUIREMENTS: Employer will accept a Bachelor’s Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field and 2 years of experience in job offered, or an acceptable alternate occupation.
Experience must involve 2 years in:
- Sales/use taxes and tax theories pertaining to the software and hardware industry
- Accounting and tax software to prepare the sales/use tax returns, account reconciliations as well as other required components of the sales tax process
- GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
- Research on impact of potential or enacted tax legislation
- Drafting memoranda as to the potential consequences, and model out (mathematically) options for responding
- Microsoft Office Suite and tax calculation software OneSource or Vertex to prepare the sales/use tax returns, account reconciliations, and other required components of the sales tax process
