The Role
This position requires knowledge of software licensing terms and conditions and data analysis skills with the ability to reconcile installed software data with license entitlement data.  Some of the work will be analytical, unscripted, and involve researching technical documentation as well as contractual licensing terms and conditions, and being able to translate those terms and conditions into technical constraints used by the license reconciliation system.  The role will also be responsible for entering license entitlement records into the SAM repository, will be the first point of contact for software license requests, daily management of the SAM tool and SAM specific ticket/request queues, ensuring Proof of Entitlement documentation is obtained and properly stored for all license entitlements, producing and distributing SAM reports, pre-acquisition activities, and monitoring contract and maintenance expiration dates to ensure license renewals are not missed.  This position partners with other IT departments and finance leads to reconcile measured software deployments to license and maintenance entitlements, and ensure all accounting, regulatory, corporate and legal requirements are met and followed for IT software assets.

This role will have the opportunity to be creative and help shape a new program within S&P Global.  The individual who fills this role will become an expert on the ServiceNow Software Asset Module, which was recently revised with significant gains in functionality and automation potential, and also become a software licensing subject matter expert.  This role will work on a variety of tasks and projects as directed by the IT Asset Manager.

Required Skills

  • Experience in Software License Management, Software Audit, Software Procurement, or related field
  • Strong data analysis skills and experience working with relational database technologies
  • Experience working with various software inventory discovery tools/data such as SCCM, IBM BigFix Inventory, ServiceNow Discovery
  • Ability to interpret complex legal and software licensing terms and conditions
  • Research skills and the ability to work independently without detailed work instructions
  • Familiarity with IAITAM Best Practice Library or ITIL v3 Asset and Configuration Management process areas a plus

Responsibilities

  • Analyze large sets of disparate data related to software installation, hardware configuration, procurement, financial, and license entitlement.
  • Participates in audit readiness processes to ensure we are managing license compliance risks.
  • Maintains proper implementation of Software Asset management discovery tools, policies, processes, and procedures for effective asset management.
  • Builds strong working relationships with other IT departments, including but not limited to, Support & Services, IT Procurement, IT Architecture Group, and Technology Services Groups to ensure software discovery and reporting meets requirements.
  • Recommends process improvement and automation opportunities.
  • Researches technology and licensing trends for potential impact on license compliance at S&P Global.
  • Participates in vendor audit activities and responds in accordance with S&P Global policies and procedures.
  • Performs pre-acquisition tasks related to software install/license purchase requests
  • Manages and works software request tickets within the SAM repository
  • Enters license entitlement records into the SAM repository
  • Ensures Proof of Entitlement documentation is properly recorded and stored within the SAM repository.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Legal, Computer Science, Information Systems or Business is required
  • 2+ years of experience  as a Software Asset Manager, Software License Auditor, IT Procurement, or related field is required
  • 2+ years of experience analyzing data and utilizing data analysis tools and techniques
  • Ability to collaborate with business and technology teams
  • Experience working with software inventory discovery data and license entitlement data
  • Experience interpreting complex legal, financial, and technical software licensing terms and conditions and contracts
  • Experience working within the ServiceNow platform a plus
