As the principal Contractor for the Naval Communications Station Harold E Holt (NCSHEH) located in Exmouth, Western Australia, Raytheon Australia provides services for the maintenance and operation of critical defence infrastructure including the Space Surveillance Telescope, Very Low Frequency (VLF) communications transmitter and C-Band Radar.
To support our mission, Raytheon Australia is currently seeking a motivated well-rounded civil engineer who is ready to join a diverse, talented, and enthusiastic team of engineering professionals on-site in Exmouth with a desired experience in horizontal construction (roads), geotechnical (earthworks) & materials (concrete).

Reporting to the major projects manager, the lead civil engineer will assist the major projects manager in the scoping and estimating future civil construction works required to maintain the precinct’s infrastructure and critical capabilities. The position will also assist the mission system and utility managers in the implementation of funded civil engineering changes.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform a diverse range of civil / structural engineering and technical & programmatic tasks within the Defence sustainment environment, including investigation, design, modification & maintenance process.
- Conduct risk assessments of civil / structural hazards, regulatory compliance and propose solutions.
- Timely and effective communication of hazards, defects and design or maintenance deficiencies.
- Assist with the Major Project Manager on project engineering issues, design process and engineering change development and project performance executing in according to company and program procedures.
- Develop solutions that meet customer requirements within cost, schedule and quality constraints.
- Plan, estimate and schedule civil / structural engineering tasks and activities.
- Develop and refine engineering processes in consultation with the engineering function.
- Participate in technical reviews and audits.
- Mentor engineering and technical staff.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent degree with structural and/or civil systems industry experience.
- Minimum of six years’ experience in operational and/or in-service support phases of major programs, preferably in Defence technology and/or construction related industries.
- Willingness to become and maintain a chartered professional engineering status via Engineers Australia.
- Experience making improvements to processes, systems, or products to enhance performance.
- Understanding of systems engineering, engineering support, maintenance support, and technical documentation disciplines.
- Knowledge of product life cycle and experience with system performance metrics.
- Solid skills in relevant business and engineering applications.
Infrequent travel to Adelaide will be required to support engineering investigations as well as travel within Australia for business and development related training.
