We are currently looking for a Strategy Manager to join our Thales USA team in Arlington, VA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform research & analysis tasks, such as market assessments, opportunity assessments, and competitor assessments, using internal and external tools and data sources.
  • Where appropriate, design and implement research frameworks in support of capture efforts across markets.
  • When appropriate, participate in industry events to gain insight and stay abreast of market trends.
  • Perform assessment and profiling of partners, competitors, and potential M&A targets, using open source/public-domain research, internal/proprietary sources as available, and interactions with Thales USA and Thales NA staff as needed.
  • Manage discrete research or strategy projects, and elements thereof.
  • Plan and execute internal strategy events, e.g. meetings, presentations, workshops, and work sessions, including content generation, presentation drafting, presentation, and group discussion facilitation.
  • Where appropriate, manage efforts of external contractors (e.g. consultants) providing analytical support for Thales NA projects and initiatives.
  • Plan and execute research and analysis tasks and projects in support of VP Strategy activities in strategic planning at a Country and business unit level, including synthesis of findings and content generation for annual Strategic Business Plan (SBP) documentation
  • With inputs and guidance from VP Strategy, plan and execute M&A planning and execution tasks, from identification to pursuit and diligence of M&A transactions, including drafting of M&A scans, review of potential targets, discussion/engagement with relevant Thales businesses, and support of engagement in transaction processes.
  • In coordination with VP Strategy/Marketing, collaborate with and support related Thales NA internal teams (Strategy Canada, Strategy NA, Marketing, Communications, Business Development).

Skills and Experience Required:

  • 6 years of experience in a BD, strategy or M&A-related role in the US aerospace/defense sector
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or technical discipline
  • Extensive experience in Excel modeling and Powerpoint presentation documents
  • Familiarity with US defense or aerospace industrial base
  • Experience with market research tools and techniques
  • Familiarity with standard competitive positioning and strategy development frameworks
  • Familiarity with basic corporate finance and valuation techniques
  • Familiarity with corporate development frameworks and processes, i.e. planning and execution of corporate transactions, especially M&A:  e.g. target scanning/screening, target profile development, business due diligence
  • Ability to independently plan and execute complex research projects
  • Ability to clearly synthesize and present conclusions tailored to large or small audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in a BD, strategy or M&A-related role in the US aerospace/defense sector
  • Master’s degree in Finance, MBA, or technical discipline
  • Comprehensive knowledge of US defense and aerospace industrial base, technologies, and customer community
  • Familiarity with US defense/aerospace transaction community, i.e. corporate development professionals, financial investors, investment banks
  • Demonstrated experience in aerospace/defense strategy development projects
  • Demonstrated experience in building financial models, e.g. market/opportunity assessment, due diligence business case development, transaction valuation models.
