Avery Dennison is seeking a Research & Development Lab Technician to join the Performance Tapes Division. The R&D Lab Technician will support innovation and new technology development in North America. This role is focused on tactical lab execution of testing for new product development, and automotive specification testing. A major part of the work includes the execution of specific product application tests to validate product performance against our customer’s needs. You will work in close cooperation with product development engineers, and tech service engineers and support electric battery and automotive account managers. Essential functions may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Detailed-oriented and capable of delivering professional reports for critical product development projects

  • Creating sample material according to our standard procedures Conduct experiments/studies to support development efforts.

  • Conduct testing, reports, and audits according to our standard procedures like  ISO 17025.

  • Ensuring that all actions comply with our safety- and quality procedures

  • Responsible for publishing and updating product data sheets

  • Registering/storing data and reporting data to the customer/colleague

  • Time management - plan your tasks and, if necessary, identify bottlenecks.

  • Able to handle multiple work streams concurrently

  • Cooperation with the different colleagues and functions within all Avery Dennison divisions and external parties (i.e. Marketing, other areas of R&D, Suppliers/Customers)

  • Environmental awareness and safety consciousness.

  • Assist other cross-functional teams such as manufacturing, quality, and Engineering in addressing adhesive and product-related issues for customers.


Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials/Polymer Science, (Bio)Mechanical Engineering or other related subject area required 

  • Experience in general laboratory practices and basic data analysis. 

  • Excellent hands-on technical skills (i.e. mechanical skills, including but not limited to using small hand tools, creating, setting up, and performing various tests, making samples, etc.)

  • Prior experience in similar industries like electric battery application testing, and automotive specification testing is an advantage

  • High level of accuracy

  • Pro-active approach

  • Strong computer skills (familiarity with Microsoft- and other software), and knowledge in statistical analysis of data is a plus.

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team

  • Well-organized and with a service-oriented attitude

  • Excellent communication across multiple functional teams at different levels, planning, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to lift to 20 pounds.

  • Travel: -5%

Skills & Capabilities:

  • Skilled in executing experiments and trials; demonstrated scientific acumen and strategic thinking in obtaining results.

  • Skilled in developing documentation of experimental results and interpretations.

  • Understanding of computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, ERP software, and function-specific software.

  • Skilled in making moderately complex mathematical computations.

  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.  Good verbal and written skills.

  • Skilled in interfacing effectively with cross-functional groups to define and execute overall requirements.

  • Strong lab protocol knowledge and comfortable with various mechanical test equipment.

  • Solid scientific and engineering knowledge.
