Hitachi Energy is seeking a Sr. Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer within our North American Power Grid – Transformer (PGTR) organization.  The Quality Assurance Engineer will be a key contributor to creating and sustaining a data-driven, closed-loop quality system and the efficient management and continuous improvement of the quality system and key business processes.  

The Sr. QA Engineer will maintain management system procedures, analyze production and quality data to identify trends and drive problem solving efforts, support external audits, and drive Corrective and Preventative Action plans and activities to closure, including objective evidence of effectiveness. This person will be diligent in applying quality engineering skills and experience, driven by data and facts, and comfortable leading teams of operators, technicians, and engineers through projects and problem-solving exercises. 

 

The Sr. QA Engineer will be a member of the quality team, reporting to the Quality Manager, and will be accountable for delivering tangible results in support of business plan objectives that eliminate wastes, improve quality, and achieves a stable, predictable process.     

 

 

Your responsibilities:

  • Identify non-conformances and opportunities for improvement, applying six-sigma and Quality Engineering methodology to create a data-driven improvement cycle throughout the production environment. 

  • Effectively implement Quality Engineering tools such as Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) to drive a prevention-based quality system.  

  • Develop and drive compliance to quality standards and the continual improvement in quality performance, e.g. reduction of variation; sustainability, service/delivery performance.  

  • Develop and manage control plans for manufacturing processes. 

  • Lead, participate, and support cross-functional project teams to increase productivity, reduce waste, improve quality, and enhance safety. 

  • Track and prepare reports for internal quality performance metrics. 

  • Drive an efficient, practical and continuously improving Quality Management System (QMS) that fully complies to ISO 9001 standards and other quality system requirements. 

  • Lead the investigation of customer complaints using 8D or other Problem Solving Methodology.   

  • Initiate actions to prevent the occurrence of non-conformities related to product, processes, or the quality system, and verify the effectiveness of implemented solutions. 

  • Ensures that processes comply with regulatory and industry standards. 

  • Additional duties may be assigned, as required. 

  • Assignments require thorough understanding of standard engineering concepts / principles, and in-depth knowledge of quality assurance programs & procedures. 

  • This role also requires the ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, customers, and internal groups (this may be necessary to negotiate changes and influence decisions). 

  • It also requires the ability to make decisions on quality matters, subject to general overview.

Your Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering-oriented discipline. 

  • 5-8 years of professional experience working in engineering, manufacturing, and/or quality.  

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE). 

  • Recent professional experience working in Quality Engineering functions in a manufacturing environment. 

  • Experience in ISO 9001. Proficiency in MS Office 365, including intermediate and advanced Word, Excel, PowerPoint. 

  • Strong analytical skills, knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes, standard work and process control plans. 

  • Experience working with Process Improvement and/or Continuous Improvement practices (e.g. APQP, 8D, Kaizen, 4Q, DMAIC, Gemba, Root-Cause Analysis [RCA]; etc.). 

  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) in English. 

  • Work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the applicable North American facility. 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Strong analytical skills, especially with data analysis, is heavily preferred – proven experience working with FMEA (Failure Modes & Effects Analysis),. 

  • Recent experience working with data-driven analytical methodologies for industrial quality applications – especially Statistical Process Control [SPC], Six Sigma, Process Capability (Cp, CpK), and/or Process Performance (Pp, PpK) Analysis. 

  • Experience working with Process Improvement and/or Continuous Improvement practices (e.g. APQP, Kaizen, 8D, 4Q, DMAIC, Gemba, Root-Cause Analysis [RCA]; etc.). 

  • Familiarity with ISO-9001 standards is a plus (expertise in related industry standards will also be considered). 

  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) in English. 

  • Experience with Minitab, SharePoint, Power BI, and SAP is desired. 

  • Experience working in or with product development.
