DESCRIPTION
Key Responsibilities:
- System Development and Diagnostics:
- Investigate electronic application and systems issues, identifying root causes, and proposing solutions with guidance from senior team members.
- Review diagnostic concepts, including events categorization, event storage, and transferring event data to the wayside. Participate in the validation of defined functions through lab or train testing.
- Collaborate with technical and product teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to deliver recommendations and decisions that improve product quality and performance.
- Use simulation, calibration, and troubleshooting tools to perform system modeling, validation, and product life maintenance.
- Define diagnostic concepts using Selectron tools and work on rail applications.
- Review diagnostic concepts of complete applications, types of events and their categories, storage of events, and transferring sets of events to wayside.
- Review requirements, source code, and witness validation of defined functions through lab or train testing.
- Product Validation and Testing:
- Create and execute validation plans for system testing, identifying potential failure modes and ensuring the system meets requirements through various testing methods.
- Witness the execution of tests and confirm the accuracy of diagnostic functionality and system requirements.
- Support the improvement of testing and development processes and tools, ensuring that products meet customer requirements.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to cross-functional teams, contributing to product development and troubleshooting efforts.
- Assist in coordinating work among technicians or student employees, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related STEM field is required.
- A post-graduate (Master’s) degree may be required for select roles.
- Experience:
- At least 3+ years of work experience in software development for diagnostics functions, especially in rail projects.
- Hands-on experience with IEC61131-3 or model-based development tools like MATLAB/Simulink.
- Experience with network topologies and industrial communication protocols (serial, Ethernet) is required.
- Working-level knowledge in defining diagnostic concepts using Selectron tools and experience in rail applications.
- Proven experience in reviewing diagnostic concepts, event categorization, event storage, and transferring event data to wayside.
- Experience in reviewing requirements, source code, and witnessing validation of defined functions through lab or train testing.
- Licensing and Compliance:
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

- Mechatronics Systems Design and Application:
- Understanding of hardware/software integration to control and measure system operations in Cummins' products.

- Ability to analyze and combine subsystems for optimized product performance, ensuring reliability, cost efficiency, and quality.

- Proactively identifies failure modes and mitigates risks by assessing interfaces, control factors, and potential failure causes within systems.
- Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis:
- Applies computational tools to predict product capabilities, impacting system, subsystem, or component-level requirements.
- Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting:
- Identifies assignable causes of issues and implements data-driven solutions to improve product reliability and performance.
- Product Verification and Validation Management:
- Develops and executes validation plans, ensuring products meet functional and system requirements.
- System Requirements Engineering:
- Translates stakeholder needs into verifiable system requirements and manages project scope and resources.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Builds effective partnerships, communicates complex technical information clearly, and fosters a collaborative work environment.
- Statistical Analysis:
- Utilizes statistical methods to analyze technical data and drive data-based decisions for product development.
- Design Integration:
- Translates requirements into virtual designs and leads cross-functional design reviews to ensure product capability.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and Skills:
- Diagnostic Tools:
- Proficiency in defining diagnostic concepts and using diagnostic tools for rail applications.
- Network and Communication Protocols:
- Experience with serial, Ethernet, and other industrial communication networks.
- Software Development:
- Expertise in using tools like MATLAB/Simulink for software development in rail applications.
- System Lifecycle:
- Strong understanding of the system lifecycle, including requirements, design, testing, and product validation.
Experience:
- 4+ years of experience in the electrical/electronics engineering field, with a focus on software development for diagnostic functions in rail systems.
- Proven experience in system troubleshooting, software configuration, and performing testing and validation.
- Knowledge of electrical system design, validation processes, and application of diagnostic tools in complex environments.
- Knowledge of Programming Language-Python,C, C++ Preparation of Diagnostic Database
