Role: SQL Database Developer III

Location: Charlottesville or Richmond, VA or Remote possible for the right candidate

The Team: The Database Development team is a sub team within the larger Data Architecture team. And is principally responsible for Query and Application Performance as it relates to SQL Server. The team also supports and develops internal .Net (C#) tools for use by Technology teams.

The Impact: The Database Development team, through our Query Optimization and performance tuning efforts, has a direct impact on the quality of our products with the end-user experience.

What’s in it for you: Involvement in a strong technical team that has input into the basic architecture and direction of our data platform. Our team takes requests from all across the product and content development teams so we’re exposed to all matter of interesting technical challenges. Our team is not considered an incident support team, so there is no on-call rotation.


  • Optimizes and troubleshoots T-SQL queries and Stored Procedures that come in from the product development teams.
  • Troubleshoots problems that arise on high level projects. May act as an SQL Server architecture consultant to the Data Platforms Team, Data Architecture or other IT services teams.
  • Completes complex development tasks involving T-SQL Stored Procedures, Views and related table structures as well as SSIS package creation, modification and maintenance.
  • Completes other projects and tasks as assigned. May be assigned research and development tasks to explore leveraging new or emerging database technologies.
  • Troubleshoots problems that arise on high level projects. May act as an SQL Server architecture consultant to the Data Platforms Team, Data Architecture or other IT services teams.
  • Acts as a technical mentor and lead to Database Developer I and II staff

What we’re looking for:

  • Minimum six or more years SQL Server database development or equivalent experience.
