Microsoft 365 is one of the largest enterprise services at Microsoft (and the world!), and security and customer trust are key to the success of our business and its continued growth. As our service grows, we need to ensure that our core runtime security tech (access control, monitoring, scanning, etc.) runs on the infrastructure powering the service and can handle new service architectures and features that get launched.

To achieve this mission, the Microsoft 365 Core Security team is looking for a Senior Program Manager to drive our work to package and efficiently scale key security components across an evolving and rapidly growing service infrastructure. In this fast paced and highly visible role, you will work deeply with the owners of Microsoft 365 service infrastructure to understand their environments and upcoming plans, and ensure that our core security components can run in those environments and keep them secure. You’ll work closely with our engineering teams to develop the ability to optimize how we test, roll out, and update these core components at scale – making sure that every part of the service is covered.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities for this role will include the following:

  • Develop a forecast for demand for security coverage in Microsoft 365 infrastructure, both in terms of scale and also in terms of new architectures that will need to be supported
  • Work with engineering teams in security to optimize how we package and deploy the core security tech to effectively meet forecasted demand, with a focus on automated deployment when possible
  • Work closely with teams in Microsoft 365 using our core security tech to understand requirements and needs, and work with security engineering teams to optimize our packaging and deployment solution based on those
  • Develop and track KPIs around adoption of our core security tech across Microsoft 365 infrastructure, report to leadership regularly on these and drive improvements to these KPIs
Qualifications

You do not need to be a security expert to start in this role (though some security background is desirable!), but come prepared to learn about what security at scale means for one of the largest services in the world. The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in a technical program management role
  • Proven ability and willingness to operate and influence teams in an complex, matrixed organization
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to drive exec communications
  • Strong ability to provide structure to an ambiguous problem space – you will be expected to define KPIs/metrics for your area and get your stakeholders on the same page about that
