Deputy Head of Global In-House Center (GIC) Strategy,  Executive Director

 

GIC Strategy is a New York based function in Morgan Stanley’s Firm Management Division. The successful candidate will work with the Head of GIC Strategy, as well as with the local GIC leadership to provide guidance on overall global GIC strategy including location and talent management, planning processes, culture and risk management. This role will report to the Head of GIC Strategy.

 

GIC Profile:

 

Morgan Stanley has 9 GIC locations across three continents with 15,000 staff. The GIC network underpins the firm’s internal capabilities to support functions critical to the successful running of the organization, in areas like Technology, Operations, Finance, Risk, HR, LCD and business units. Each site is run by a local GIC Head responsible for partnering with relevant business units to implement and execute on the Firm’s global growth and deployment strategy. The central strategy function will interact with all the GICs, business units and other firm management functions. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to Morgan Stanley’s senior leadership, and a unique platform from which to shape the strategic, future-ready, growth of the firm.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Strategy development:
    • Partner with the Head of GIC Strategy to develop, implement and monitor the GIC Strategy
    • Partner with firm Business and Divisional heads to identify medium term initiatives and support the development of an implementation plan
    • Represent and champion GICs in Business, Regional and Divisional OpCos across major global firm hubs
  • Oversight and management:
    • Run and drive regular meetings with GIC Heads, COOs and Divisional COOs
    • Support various meetings, including setting the agenda and developing content for the monthly GIC Heads meeting and quarterly GIC Governance Committee (including many members of Firm’s Global Operating committee)
    • Work with GIC heads to develop a talent management strategy to foster leadership development and support long-term career aspirations of the staff
    • Develop Risk framework for GIC’s
    • Institutionalize processes to identify, report and mitigate conduct and operational risk
  • Planning:
    • Business Continuity Planning  
    • Active participation in office space planning, management, and forecasting

Qualifications:

  • A proven influencer with strong interpersonal skills, able to interact at all levels to drive successful outcomes in line with business and operational management globally

  • Effective organizational & prioritization skills – a project management background and qualifications are advantageous

  • Experience leading a team across multiple global sites to deliver operational excellence, leveraging local nuances alongside global Firm best practice

  • Experienced public speaker with ability to represent the Firm at local and international events, demonstrating Morgan Stanley values, culture and standards of excellence

  • Experience within the Financial Services industry, including a strong knowledge of  the core facets of revenue-generating Front Office business units, and the operational structures required for their successful execution

  • Evidence of participation in change management and continuous development projects within a complex global organization, preferably Financial Services

  • Demonstrates initiative, judgment and decision making
