Microsoft Quantum has assembled a talented and diverse international team to create the world’s first scalable quantum computing system.  Microsoft’s verticalized approach involves exciting innovations at every level, from the qubit device and quantum information plane, to the quantum-classical interface and classical compute system, all the way up to the system software, applications and global services.  Microsoft Quantum will change the world of computing and help solve some of humankind’s currently unsolvable problems.  


The Quantum hardware team is seeking Senior Fabrication Engineers to develop new hybrid semiconductor-superconductor platforms for topological quantum computing.  These are a business-critical roles that will have direct and significant impact on one of the most unique teams at Microsoft, and requires a candidate to assist with the following:  

  • Design and fabricate nano-electronic devices for topological qubits 
  • Develop and improve unit processes to optimize yield and performance 
  • Integrate unit processes into full device flow and correlate accumulated results 
  • Coordinate with materials growers, cleanroom staff, and characterization staff to optimize workflow and device optimization.  
  • Develop testing & monitoring methods incl automation for devices.  
  • Specify equipment hardware, improve and bring up new tools. 
  • Assist in optimizing overall design of quantum computing device 

Key Responsibilities include:  

  • Develop unit nanofabrication processes and integrate them into a robust process flow for the fabrication of topological quantum devices.  
  • Analyze and improve fabrication & performance issues systematically. 
  • Develop and track PCMS for process and tool stability 
  • Develop, review and maintain standard operating procedures. 

Note that given the global scope of our team, limited travel may be required as needed.  



  • 4+ years industry or comparable hands-on experience with Frontend micro/nanofabrication of semiconductor/solid-state devices, preferably in CMOS, Power or III/V Semiconductors (eg. Power electronics, RF, Laser diodes, LED) 
  • 4+ years’ industry experience with one or more of: lithography (e-beam, optical), thin film deposition (eg. ALD, CVD), etching (plasma, wet chemical), metrology (SEM, AFM, electrical probing) 
  • 4+ years’ industry experience with working in a cleanroom and following safety protocol.  
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills  
  • Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills 
  • Strong desire to work in a collaborative international team – periodic travel to other Microsoft Quantum laboratory sites will be required (up to 20%) 
  • Advanced degree preferred in material/mechanical/chemical engineering, or physics/chemistry, or related field.
