Technical Generalist

About the role:
With a background in science you will support our embellishment business to identify and develop our global base of suppliers for fabrics, yarns, inks, films, adhesives and other critical raw material components. You will assist and support our Material Scientists who liase between our internal R&D and product development teams and our external suppliers, driving continuous improvement and ensuring our raw materials meet the highest standards of excellence.
Setting Up & Maintenance
Conduct maintenance, calibration, and cleaning of laboratory equipment.
Sets up test apparatus and conducts tests following methods, procedures, and standards
Orders lab supplies.
Testing & Research
Assists in documenting testing plans for multi-functional set of experiments
Conducts developmental tests for new raw materials and/or modified products.
Compiles test data and reviews the test results with our Material Scientists
Confers with Material Scientists and other technical personnel to resolve testing problems such as product or equipment issues, malfunctions, incomplete test data and interpretation.
Develops test methods and test protocols.
Read and keep current in field. Expand knowledge to develop specialization
Proactive Technical Scouting: Actively scout for innovative materials and technologies.
Observing, Recordkeeping & Evaluating
Makes and records observations; performs calculations, analyzes data and collects and prepares data for evaluation.
Interpret and analyze data to provide conclusions and recommendations for product development, problem solving, and continuous product improvement.
Deliver timely and accurate results and technical reports for the purposes of supporting research projects, testing, troubleshooting and resolving customer complaints, as well as performing competitive product benchmarking, developing or improving existing products and supporting the various business or commercial teams.
Provide written and graphical reports utilizing basic statistical tools and methods.
Makes recommendations regarding improvements to test methodology.
Create raw material specifications as needed.
Safety

Practice excellent housekeeping. Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Material Science, Textile Engineering or a closely related field.
A minimum of 0-3 years of experience in a technical role within the coatings, printing, textile / garment manufacturing industry or scientific test laboratory.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to discuss complex technical subjects with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Good English language skills, verbal and written.
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally to production and supplier sites (up to 30%) is required.
Good math and analytical skills.
Good organization and attention to detail.
Ability to interface with cross-functional groups to define and execute overall requirements.
Additional requirements considered a strong plus:
Knowledge of Heat Transfer Label manufacturing processes.
Understanding of textile adhesives, textile raw materials (fabrics/yarns), footwear materials, ink formulation, color chemistry, resins/binders, .
Experience working in a global, matrixed organization.
