In this role, the Hardware Product Manager / Engineer provides expertise and leadership to full life-cycle programs from developing concepts through NPI transition to operational teams. You’ll lead collaboration with OEM’s/ODM’s/CM’s/ and SI’s to develop novel solutions.

    You should come with strong opinions about how to design, test, and qualify hardware, systems, firmware, and server components is required. You should be familiar with industry standard hardware development processes. You will have a passion for quality through the lifecycle of a product. Packet is at the edge, so you should be excited by the idea of working with new hardware technologies to innovate at the edge!

    We hope you have a love for automation and writing software to make other’s lives easier. Experience in BMC’s and OOB controllers is a huge plus, especially with OpenBMC and AMI firmware stacks. Building for (sub)scale and understanding challenges of deploying, installing, configuring, monitoring and maintaining large fleets of hardware in hundreds of locations are huge bonus points! This role can be remote or based in one of our office locations.


    • You will lead the project management of hardware development programs from inception to final product shipment.
    • Help our team of engineers and/or server ODM/OEM partners to develop, support, and sustain purpose built servers, with emphasis on a robust design and high quality product.
    • You will collaborate regularly with internal product teams to understand requirements, optimize solutions, and cultivate product knowledge.
    • Start hardware procurement process from initial concept, architectural draft, product requirement documents, to a final RFP.
    • You will generate and review validation plans, oversee execution and test reports across multiple disciplines including mechanical, firmware, and system software.
    • Investigate, triage, and debug hardware and system level issues down to component and firmware level working across the organization.
    • Define and qualify second source components and materials to ensure supply chain continuity.
    • You should be able to work with system software engineers to define, develop, and improve test scripts.
    • Participate in proposal and cost estimating activities related to NPI activities and broader supply chain/Hardware Engineering areas


    • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience, Master’s preferred
    • Practical understanding of product development and the Hi-tech product development lifecycle
    • Strong background in engineering and manufacturing principles
    • Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams
    • In-depth server design including CPUs, PCIe, Power, Memory, etc.
    • ODM Product Development
    • Knowledge of storage, network, and/or power subsystems
    • Some travel required
