The Office of the CTO (OCTO) is seeking a versatile Senior Program Manager to drive Advanced Technology Groups Co-Innovation programs and partner with cross-functional teams within OCTO and across various lines of business at VMware. The Co-Innovation program manager will provide oversight and program management excellence for several programs/workstreams inclusive of the already established xLabs program, which is an internal accelerator program with the goal of driving innovation through collaborative working relationships with our employees, partners & customers.

You will be responsible for defining and driving day-to-day program management and operations of the Co-Innovation programs. You will work with engineering, technologists, global marketing, HR, finance, and legal. In other words, this is a high-exposure position in terms of breadth and upward visibility. You will make a direct contribution to our organization in achieving business goals and driving organizational impact.

Program Management Role

This role is part of OCTO Strategic Programs and Analytics group. You will work independently and as a member of a team, driving cross-functional and strategic initiatives. You will have the opportunity to work in a fast pace environment demonstrating autonomy while adhering to team values.  

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with executive-level management in the development of performance goals (OKRs) and long-term operational strategy.
  • Manage xlabs budgets, inclusive of development of financial and budgetary plans
  • Devise strategies to ensure growth of programs enterprise-wide, identifying and implementing process improvements that will maximize output and minimize costs
  • Successfully manage all phases of projects and programs, including ensuring consistency in program management methodologies, communication, tools, and metrics.

Required Skills:

  • BS/BA degree in Business or Technology-related field (required)
  • Program Management certification (PMP or equivalent) and Agile, SCRUM experience (required)
  • 7+ years’ experience implementing technical projects and programs in complex, cross-functional, global contexts.
  • Experience in developing new and maturing existing programs.
  • Experienced in agile, waterfall and hybrid methodologies
  • Excellent communications (written/verbal), and organizational skills. Ability to influence without authority; partner with other functions and lines of business
  • Strong analytical skills and a natural predisposition toward data-driven decision making, but with ability to make reasoned decisions in the face of uncertainty or imperfect data.
