  • Bounteous is looking for a dynamic and impassioned Director of Experience Design (Research) with a strong background in User Research. This user-research focused role is for experience design veterans who are able to translate complex industry challenges into customer-centered insights.  You will work along a smart, passionate, and empathic team to concept and design industry-changing digital products that enable our teams to win in a very competitive marketplace. The ideal candidate is an engaging storyteller, creative problem solver, and mentor who enjoys collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams to collectively deliver data-driven and user-centered experiences.
    Role and Responsibilities
    • Contribute to the establishment of Experience Design and User Experience research standards, deliverables and methodologies within the organization.
    • Ensure definition of research goals and questions in order to support business needs, while keeping a human-centered lens; recommend appropriate research methodologies to match
    • Oversee development of  test plans and execute user experience research to identify problems and latent needs
    • Direct research activities focused on collection and analysis of user behavior such as concept testing, usability tests, user surveys and interviews, benchmark studies, competitive analyses and other experience research methods.
    • Work with team to analyze research data, synthesize findings, and clearly communicate recommendations and implications to coworkers and clients
    • Facilitating client workshops including user-centered activities such as audience definition, journey mapping, empathy mapping
    • Work with Experience Designers, Product Strategists, Data Scientists, Engineers and other key stakeholders to prioritize and conduct research opportunities in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
    • Deft familiarity and expertise in Experience Design activities and deliverables including sitemaps, wireframes, prototypes, personas, experience strategy documentation, and process flows.
    • Act as a leader and mentor in project work: create high-quality deliverables, facilitate client discussions and workshops, lead critiques, and coach fellow experience designers.
    • Occasionally support business development through estimation, solutioning, and high-level staffing plans.
    • Support project managers to schedule experience design and research activities and deliverables within a project.
    • Collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams to create innovative, best-in-class, customer-centric solutions.
    • Ability to balance several initiatives simultaneously.
    • Work with senior XD leadership to lead, develop, and grow the Experience Design team.
    • Coach and mentor staff in user research activities and methodologies, improve presentation skills, and guide personal growth
    • Stay informed of User Experience Research best practices, trends, tools, and participate in the local Experience Design and User Research community.
    • Contribute to our culture and atmosphere, quality of work, and growth into the next generation of user experience designers.

    • BS/BA in Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, Information Systems, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience
    • Advanced degree with formal training in research methods is preferred (HCI, Design Research, Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, etc)
    Preferred Qualifications
    • At least 11 years of experience as a UX professional with a robust toolkit of research methods 
    • At least 3 years experience mentoring and managing a team of direct reports
    • Experience with testing complex data-driven products and user interactions (advertising technology, finance, etc.)
    • Experience in leading user research and testing, including planning, creation and moderation
    • Experience presenting work to clients, facilitating and leading workshops, and synthesizing data into actionable projects across programs
    • Experience connecting Experience Design work to user, business, and brand value
    • Ability to lead engagements to provide a strong voice for Experience Design within blended teams
    • Strong background in human factors, information architecture, and user-centered design methodology
    • Ability to lead and create Experience Design deliverables and activities with no oversight
    • Understanding of responsive design, mobile design, accessibility issues, and Agile methodology
    • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously
    • Experience in estimating, planning, and staffing project work
    • Consulting/Agency experience is a plus

    • In depth knowledge of design and presentation software, specifically: Sketch, InVision, Miro, remote user testing tools, Adobe Suite, and Microsoft Office products
    • Expert knowledge of PowerPoint, Keynote, or similar presentation tools

    • Excellent communicator with all levels of leadership, management, and staff to achieve desired outcomes and build strong alliances and relationships
    • Superior presentation skills, with a flexible ability to deliver key messages through stories and writing in multiple contexts
    • Professional demeanor to communicate and articulate with client stakeholders and end users.
    • Excellent listener with a passion for user centered design
