TheMicrosoft Azure Edge Devices (AED) teamis chartered with building devices and experiences that help our ecosystem of partners and customers leverage Azure to accelerate their creation and adoption of the next generation of connected, intelligent, and autonomous edge solutions. We work across a wide range of industries, partner types, device form factors, and service technologies to enable new application scenarios, provide in-depth business insights and safeguard the security and privacy of our customer/partners data. 


We're looking for a fast learning, self-motivated, creative, adaptive, tech savvy Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in thermals. In this role, you will work with talented engineers from multiple disciplines to design and develop perception AI-based edge devices through all phases of their product development cycles. You’ll be exposed to novel technologies in AI, IoT and cloud. You will work closely with our ecosystem partners to scale the deployment of these devices globally demonstrating significant positive impact to society. This is an unparalleled opportunity to define and build the next generation of intelligent edge devices, create and learn new technologies and have a positive social impact by empowering every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.  


  • A minimum of 4 years’ hands-on experience and proficiency in thermal and mechanical design of device hardware to provide relevant and data driven system evaluations (i.e. Product assembly and tear downs, thermal solution design) 
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling tools and thermal simulation tools such as FloTHERM 
  • In depth knowledge of mechanical process, materials and finishes to achieve ID,reliability test & feature requirements. 
  • In depth knowledge of the ProE/NX or CAD software– 3D modeling, assembly management, 2D drawing release. 
  • In depth knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing. 
  • A thorough understanding of active & passive thermal solution  
  • Hands-on experience with in-house design product and able to work with suppliers for rapid prototyping  
  • BSc or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering 
  • Experience in investigating relevant product design concepts, driving relevant analysis and trade-offs aligned with product goals, contributing end- to-end product development cycles. 
  • Ability in plastic and metal part design. 
  • Ability to seamlessly work in a team with mechanical and other electrical engineers to incorporate thermal management into new and existing products 
  • Good knowledge of tooling, injection molding, assembly process, cosmetic finishes, and defect analysis. 
  • Working with labs and knowing the equipment for mechanical & material analysis 
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude for interpretation of mechanical drawing specifications 
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
