This rolewillprimarily focuson theinternal communications strategy and execution forMicrosoft’s Chief People Officerand the HR organization,but will also include close partnership and workwith other members of the team onexternal communicationsopportunities for holistic storytelling. 

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Takinga leadership role on allinternal communications, messaging,andevents (HRall-hands, employee engagement programs, all-company emails, cross-company all-hands meeting participation, videos, Yammer, and participation atinternalCEOQ&As) 
  • ManagingCPO’sinternal messaging platform,aligned to strategic prioritiesfor both HRand company-widepeoplegoals 
  • Collaboratingwith teams inside the organization and across the company to gather data and content for internal communications andpresentations 
  • Aligningmessaging to corporate and commercial narratives (e.g.,Hybrid,Digital Transformation and Culture)andhelptake internal messages to externalaudiences 
  • CollaboratingwithCPO’sexternal communications leadto coordinate communication plans, pillars,and narrative 
  • Support CPO’s external communications as needed, including social media activity, media interviews and speakingengagements 
  • Partneringclosely withCorporate Communications,Office of the CEO Communications Team,and the SLT communications communityto develop communications plans for all-company announcements, and externalalignment 
  • Researching and writingall-company messagingfrom CPO;coordinate deployment via email/other vehicles 
  • Aligningwith external communications on awareness of internal developments (e.g., changes in benefits, employment topics, policy changes.) 
  • Deliveringsenior executive-level briefing materials, scripting/messaging for internal keynotes and presentations 
  • Drivingcommunications to WW audience ofHR professionalsacross channels (email,newsletter,video, Yammer, SharePoint, quarterlyall-handsand events) 
  • Managingmarketing/vendor budget and agency resources aligned toall-hands,newsletter,SharePointactivities

  • Strategicthinking and counsel:Ability to understand workplace trends, stay on top of company developments and corporate strategy, and advise on communication opportunities (plannedand impromptu).  
  • Communicationskills:Ability to create clear and poignant communications in CPO’s “voice”that result in compelling presentations, emails,and informal meetings with employees, partners and customers. 
  • Audienceunderstanding: Ability to understand the needs of each audience (HR employees, Microsoftemployees, customers) and design effective communicationsto reach those audiences. 
  • Organizationalagility and cross-group collaboration:Ability to work collaboratively with key constituencies across HRand Microsoft, source data and compile content from partner organizations. 
  • Manageprocesses, logistics, and deliver timely results:Ability to maintain a clear roadmap of deliverables—accommodating review, revision, and rehearsal forCPO. 
  • Contentdesign:Ability to research and develop a range of potential topics for CPO’s spoken and written communications, choose the most effective medium and structure.  
  • Leadership anddiscretion:Ability to work collaboratively withCPO’speers and directs in preparing, presenting,and executing written and verbal communications plans, including acting as the authority on appropriate communications strategy and fielding input from executives, compiling input and gaining consensus to deliver results. Also includes the ability to weigh the confidentiality of information and maintain discretion. 
Qualifications

Qualifications and skills: 

  • BA/BS in Journalism, Marketing,or Communications (or equivalent) 
  • 10+ years communications, publicrelationsormarketing+executive communications experience 
  • Public relations/media relations experience, including managing agencysupport 
  • Ability to synthesize Microsoft’smission, culture,andbusiness priorities into actionable communications plans working across businessgroups 
  • Business maturity, confidentiality,and experience working with seniorexecutives 
  • Exceptional messaging and writingskills 
  • Ability to managemultiple channels to land meaningful communications (events, video, social, PR, etc.) 
  • Eye for graphic design and multi-media creative (PowerPoint, Sway, videos, etc.) 
  • Great attention to detail and accuracy in all communications deliverables 
  • Strong cross-group collaboration skills and ability to drive coordination across all levels andstakeholders 
  • Ability to manage multiple communication projectssimultaneously and drive strong work-back plansbased on multiple organizations’needs 
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment,and able to adapt plans and approachreal-time
