At Bristol Myers Squibb, we are inspired by a single vision – transforming patients’ lives through science. In oncology, hematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease – and one of the most diverse and promising pipelines in the industry – each of our passionate colleagues contribute to innovations that drive meaningful change. We bring a human touch to every treatment we pioneer. Join us and make a difference.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a passionate, experienced transporter scientist to join the Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) Department as a Senior Principal Scientist in our Transporter group at our Princeton, NJ site. In this role, the selected candidate will join the transporter group and provide scientific and strategic leadership to support small molecule and peptide drug discovery programs with emphasis on drug disposition primarily focused on (drug) transporter related questions.  Specifically, the candidate will work closely and/or support projects teams who leverage protein degradation, gene therapy or novel modalities to advance new drug candidates. The candidate is expected to determine, communicate and carry out research that identifies what data is necessary to understand transporter-mediated elimination pathways and influence approaches for compound optimization and characterization into the clinic.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with laboratory staff to develop SOPs and best practices, assess substrate and inhibition potential towards transporters, interpret data, as well as communicate results to project teams and management

  • As the SME, the candidate will work with cross departmental and functional partners to expand our understanding of the impact of transporters on compound disposition, efficacy and safety as well as their optimization

  • Help to influence key assay development and implementation of data analysis approaches to improve overall capabilities with respect to establishing useful in silico-in vitro and in vitro-in vivo correlations, and the development of mathematical tools for assessment of transporter-mediated clearance and drug-drug interactions (DDI)

  • The candidate is expected to maintain that external presence through continued cutting-edge research.

  • It is anticipated that, while the position will be headquartered in our Princeton, NJ campus, there will be considerable interactions with ongoing research efforts in San Diego and San Francisco.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in pharmacokinetics or related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of relevant industrial experience

  • A deep understanding of transporter and DMPK principles and hands-on experience in these areas are essential

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, critical thinking ability on hypothesis generation, and capability of integrating data using modeling and simulation are required

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to lead and collaborate in a multi-discipline team setting are required for this role

  • The ideal candidate will be recognized in the field of drug transporters via publications, external presentations, and/or consortium participation

  • Prior managerial experience is a plus
