The AI Frameworks team at Microsoft develops software that pushes the cutting edge of performance in machine learning in production and research. We bridge the gap between the latest developments in model architecture (such as GPT-3) and hardware acceleration. Our software is used by key Microsoft products like Office and Azure ML. It's all open source and developed in collaboration with many other companies and individuals.

We work on:

  • PyTorch, an open source machine learning framework used by leading companies and researchers such as Facebook and OpenAI.
  • ONNX, an open standard which decouples model definition (which happens in a framework such as PyTorch or Keras) and execution.
  • ONNX Runtime, the most performant and efficient runtime for training and serving models.

We value our team members’ happiness and encourage everyone to constantly learn new things and take risks. We collaborate closely and openly to accomplish big things together while having fun.

A potential candidate must have at least 5 years' experience designing and writing production-quality code. Experience with C++, Python, machine learning and compilers would be ideal, but not required. After all, we believe in learning and growing on the job.

  • Develop and improve large complex features for our frameworks, including handling inter- and cross-team dependencies and collaboration.
  • Design features that address the needs of data scientists and ML researchers.
  • Be active in the open source and internal communities of users and prioritize our users' success.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience designing and developing software.

Preferred Skills:

  • 3+ years' experience writing C++ and Python.
  • 3+ years' experience in writing or deploying machine learning models, especially direct use of PyTorch, TensorFlow or ONNX Runtime.
  • 3+ years’ experience writing compilers.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Humility and openness to feedback.
