Experienced professionals sometimes take a career break for a variety of personal and professional reasons. Returning to work after an absence of two or more years can seem daunting. To help with this transition, UTC’s Re-Empower Program is designed specifically to help you bring your knowledge, experience and creativity back to the workforce.

The UTC Re-Empower Program helps support talented and committed professionals as they rebuild their capabilities, enhance leadership skills, and continue their professional journey. Over the course of the 16-week program, experienced professionals will gain paid, on-the-job experience, have an opportunity to participate in sessions with leadership, develop personalized plans for success and receive coaching to guide their return to work experience. Upon completion of the program, based on performance, Re-Empower participants may have an opportunity to convert to a full-time role.

The first cohort of the UTC Re-Empower Program will run from January 22, 2018 – May 11, 2018.

The UTC Re-Empower Program is a return to work program that helps support talented and committed professionals as they rebuild their capabilities, enhance leadership skills, and continue their professional journey.
The program consists of a 16-week comprehensive cohort assignment, which offers a rich and rewarding experience and mentorship for program participants transitioning back into the workforce after a 2+ year career break, for reasons such as childcare, eldercare, career path change, illness, retirement or other personal matters. Selected experienced professionals will gain paid, on-the-job experience, have an opportunity to participate in sessions with leadership, develop personalized plans for success and receive coaching to guide their return to work experience. Upon completion of the 16-week program, based on performance, Re-Empower participants may have an opportunity to convert to a full-time role.

Cohort II of the UTC Re-Empower Program will run from March 12 – June 29, 2018.

To qualify for the UTC Re-Empower Program, candidates must meet both program and position requirements.

  • Program Qualifications:
  1. Currently be on a break of at least two years or more
  2. Have a minimum of five years of professional work experience
  3. Have an interest in returning to work in a full-time position
  4. Have an ability to attend the Re-Empower Program Orientation at UTC Headquarters in Farmington, CT on January 22 – January 24, 2018
  • Position’s Basic Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor degree
  2. Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience
  3. U.S Citizenship RequiredRequired


Position Description:

Hot Section Engineering (HSE) at Pratt & Whitney is currently looking for a motivated and talented Structures Engineer to join its team in support of commercial, military and industrial gas turbine engines. In this role, the Structures Engineer will be responsible for completing technical assessments and analyses necessary to support the design, development, validation, production implementation and management of advanced and operational engines flying across the globe. The Structures Engineer will work with the various hardware, components and systems that HSE owns including turbine airfoils, rotating hardware and static structures.

In this role, the Structures Engineer will be an integral member of a team, working tasks and challenging problems focused on engine safety, reliability, capability, robustness and affordability. The Structures Engineer is expected to contribute as an individual contributor and team member and will leading key tasks with mentoring and coaching from experts and senior engineers in the field.   • Qualification:
  1. A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience
  2. US citizenship required
  • Desired Characteristics
  1. Strong proficiency and a demonstrated record of accomplishments in the structures discipline or related disciplines is expected.
  2. This includes experience with finite element analysis (FEA), modeling, computation, mechanics or materials, failure analysis, vibrations and other topics related to structures.
  3. An understanding of the components owned by HSE and the associated analytical approaches applied to turbine airfoils, rotors, shafts, frames/cases, combustors and/or exhaust systems is desired.
  4. Good communication skills are essential to be successful in this role.
  5. The ability to attain security clearance would benefit the candidate.
  • Education:
  1. B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering
