Experienced professionals sometimes take a career break for a variety of personal and professional reasons. Returning to work after an absence of two or more years can seem daunting. To help with this transition, UTC’s Re-Empower Program is designed specifically to help you bring your knowledge, experience and creativity back to the workforce.

The UTC Re-Empower Program helps support talented and committed professionals as they rebuild their capabilities, enhance leadership skills, and continue their professional journey. Over the course of the 16-week program, experienced professionals will gain paid, on-the-job experience, have an opportunity to participate in sessions with leadership, develop personalized plans for success and receive coaching to guide their return to work experience. Upon completion of the program, based on performance, Re-Empower participants may have an opportunity to convert to a full-time role.

The first cohort of the UTC Re-Empower Program will run from January 22, 2018 – May 11, 2018.

Minimum Program Qualifications
To qualify for the UTC Re-Empower Program, candidates should:
Currently be on a voluntary break of at least two years or more
Have a minimum of five years of professional work experience
Have an interest in returning to work in a full-time position
Have an ability to attend the Re-Empower Program Orientation at UTC Headquarters in Farmington, CT on March 12 - 14, 2018

Job Description:

The Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) team in Central Engineering is seeking a PHM Applications Engineer. The ideal candidate will be equally strong in systems engineering, data manipulation, and numerical analysis and seeks to apply this skillset to the exciting field of IoT.

This position offers the unique opportunity to work closely with our talented team of engineers, software developers, and customer service representatives in support of the UTAS Digital Strategy to improve our products and services. The candidate will have the opportunity to interact with airline customers and gain insight to airline operations to provide customized predictive analytic solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop algorithms that detect and interpret changes in system behavior and predict timing of future maintenance needs
  • Apply physics-based and data driven methods to optimize algorithm performance
  • Develop tools to automate cleansing, manipulation and analysis of large datasets.
  • Support development of state of the art analytic tools & methodologies to enable expansion of UTAS health monitoring capability
  • Create action plans for analytic teams and drive to closure
  • Support root cause analysis of in-service issues and incorporate lessons learned into improved design standards
Qualification:
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience in relevant engineering discipline
  • Experience with data analysis in Python or Matlab.
  • Familiarity with software development tools such as JIRA, Git, Gulp
  • Experience with applied machine learning and data mining techniques is a plus
  • Naturally inquisitive and skilled in exploratory data analysis, formulating and testing hypotheses
  • Strong initiative and ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment
  • Results & customer orientated, strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and with a geographically dispersed team.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card)

Education:
  • BS degree in a science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • MS degree is preferred
